Role Summary

We are looking for Mainframe developer with Production Support background. The successful candidate will be an adaptable individual, who has good mainframe skills and excellent trouble shooting capabilities. He/She should contribute as an individual during crises and provide solutions.

The role is for a developer working within the Application Operations & Services (AOS) portfolio. The responsibilities of the candidate will include as follows

• Supporting business requests,
• Doing Impact analysis,
• Provide business / technical solutions and reviews
• Reports issues affecting progress and recommended solutions
• Keep SSE up-to-date regarding current work on a daily/weekly basis without having to be prompted for an update
• Cooperation and collaboration within and between teams – appropriate sharing of needed resources & information
• Manage integrity of code base in the different environments
• Ensuring sufficient unit testing coverage of code
• Responsible for creation of technical specifications as assigned
• Responsible for development, coding, unit testing and systems testing as assigned and in accordance with coding standards
• Responsible for providing support for defect resolution to QA during all phases of testing and during warranty period as assigned

The candidate will be responsible to understand Application landscape of Individual Insurance business and own delivery in multiple Applications. The successful incumbent will have strong technical skills with the ability to work independently under little supervision. The desirable candidate will show initiative, be accepting of responsibility and be accountable for results.

The responsibilities of the candidate will include owning the delivery of team, leading / supporting the team during critical issues & severity situations and driving partner discussions to provide optimal solutions. He/She should be able to lead a team and manage deliverables to the client on one or more complex SLF applications.

Unique Requirements: Should be comfortable in doing night shifts for atleast 1-2 weeks in a month

• Conducts analysis of organizational needs and goals for the development and implementation of application systems.
• Reviews and analyzes large-scale systems. Provides accurate estimates on work items based on due diligence.
• Keen eye to performance improvement initiatives. Strong analytical skills to understand current functionality of an application and perform tweaks to improve efficiency.
• Analyzes, defines and documents requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, interface design, internal and external checks, controls, and outputs.
• Writes documentation that describes solution.
• Is accountable for the ongoing support of application systems in production including problem analysis, resolution, and escalation, and reporting as necessary.
• Keeps current with trends in emerging technologies and how they could apply to Sun Life.
• Develop and test, working with business and system requirements, and utilizing standard procedures and techniques
• Keeps up to date with trends in emerging technologies and figures out how those could apply to Sun Life.
• Ability to lead a team and manage deliverables to the client on one or more complex SLF applications.

Eligibility

Minimum Qualification

• A University degree in Computer Science, related technology degree/diploma, or equivalent experience
• Experience working in a multi-site, multi-time zone environment
• Excellent verbal and written communications skills
• Strong organizational, multi-tasking and time management skills to work effectively in a changing environment balancing operations and project delivery
• Demonstrated problem solving skills with ability to analyze situations/problems systematically and deliver effective right-sized solutions in a timely manner
• Experience with System Development Life Cycle methodologies (CMMI) or ITIL methodologies.

Industry Experience

• 3-5 years of progressive information technology experience with full application development life cycle and systems integration experience
• Strong analytical, trouble shooting and debugging skills to understand current functionality of an application and propose solutions.

• Excellent interpersonal, collaboration and team building skills
• Experience working / supporting a technical team
• Excellent problem analysis and trouble shooting skills

Competencies (Technical)

Mandate Skills

• Solid understanding of Cobol, DB2, JCL, PLI, File Aid, Spufi, ISPF and other utilities
• Solid Understanding of Mainframe technology
• MQ Series technologies (preferred)
• A confident, self-starter who can completely “own” the application delivery and can work independently or in a team environment
• Strong analysis and problem solving skills to breakdown high-level business requirements into more detail by questioning and probing for clarification
• Ability to learn quickly and ramp up on new technologies and systems
• Ability to work collaboratively with others (technical and non-technical partners or team members)
