Essential Duties:Duties fall into three categories: Grantmaking, Capacity Building/Technical Assistance, and Personnel Management.

Grantmaking
  • Actively guides, supports and makes recommendations for MHM’s strategic and collaborative grant-making initiatives, aligning with best practices for effective and impactful grantmaking.

Conducts portfolio analysis to provide continuity and connections among related grants within strategic portfolios. Provides ongoing analysis of aggregated results or collective impact of strategic grant portfolios. Identifies connections or gaps among projects.
  • Develops and manages
  • Develops, cultivates and maintains relationships with internal and external partners. Serves as one of the primary liaisons with the nonprofit community; as such, this position is very responsible and visible in the community. Develops, cultivates and maintains relationships with internal and external partners. Keeps up to date on current trends, activities, and changes within the MHM service area.
  • Maintains a knowledge base of federal grantmaking requirements, incorporating them into oversight of all federal pass-through grants handled by the department.
  • Manages grantmaking, ensuring programmatic accountability and compliance. Provides early identification of potential problems. Employs emergent strategy techniques to allow for flexibility within current and future funding parameters.
  • Cultivates collaborative relationships with non-profit partners and funders, aligning to MHM’s strategic vision and strategy, and mobilizing efforts for increased partner sustainability, capacity and community impact, in coordination with broad MHM departments and leadership.
  • Collaborates with Policy staff on big-picture assessments of partner funding and how that aligns with MHM’s strategic and policy priorities.
  • Works with the leadership team to identify possible new partners and strategic approaches to grantmaking. Advises grant seeking and policy efforts to support collaborative regional strategies as appropriate, and identifies ways to integrate these efforts.
  • Reviews and analyzes letters of inquiry and applications for fit with strategic direction and makes recommendations to the Director of Community Grants.
  • Guides nonprofit organizations through the entire application process, from concept development through the presentation of applications and evaluation results. Prepares summaries and reports for executive staff and board decision-making.
  • Supervises the preparation of contracts and award notifications, ensuring that the language used accurately reflects the intent of the grant.
  • Collaborates with the accounting department to conduct joint program and financial reviews of the entire portfolio.
  • Analyzes grant portfolio annually for continued alignment with MHM strategic direction and initiatives.
  • Designs and presents workshops to funded partners.
  • Provides oversight of grant database (currently MicroEdge GIFTS).
  • Creates and implements systems and practices that support the grants management function.

Capacity Building/Technical Assistance
  • Supervises the development and implementation of a cohesive capacity-building curriculum
  • Develops, manages, and provides direct services in MHM’s capacity building program. Topics may include: Grant writing and guidance on complex government funding requirements, finance and budgeting, funding opportunities & strategies, donor stewardship, and collaborative community frameworks.
  • Researches and advises development efforts, funding opportunities and strategies.
  • Collaborates with Policy staff in support of capacity building efforts.

Personnel Management
  • Supervises, evaluates and provides training to direct reports.
  • Coaches, motivates, and builds consensus among team members.
  • Supervises work of team in supporting collaborative groups of agencies and/or MHM internal operational units in developing joint projects and grant proposals.
  • Oversees development and maintenance of procedural guidance for all department functions.
  • Plans, researches and gathers key players for input and task delegation.

Other
  • Assists with strategic planning.
  • Oversees data collection and reporting function for internal program dashboard.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience

Bachelor’s degree required; five years successful grant development, grant management, community development, community engagement or related experience required, preferably with community-based organizations (health and human services). Experience managing a grant portfolio for a foundation or other funder preferred. Master’s degree preferred. Experience with collaborative community projects preferred. Financial analysis experience preferred.

Language Ability

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Fluent in English. Spanish bilingual preferred.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to synthesize principles and trends from a broad array of information.

Certificates And Licenses

CFRE (Certified Fundraising Executive) preferred.

Computer Skills

Adept at Microsoft Office Suite with high level skills in PowerPoint and data visualization. Skill in utilizing a database to store, sort, and extract user-friendly data to support a grantmaking endeavor. High level of competence with a grant management database such as Blackbaud GIFTS Online and IGAM preferred.

Other

Must be able to drive and have access to a car; maintain valid driver’s license and auto liability insurance.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a medical office environment having direct contact with patients and clients. Position necessitates bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, climbing step stools, sitting and standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 pounds.
