Context/Scope:

The Finance Experience team is responsible for managing net book value of tangible assets worth GBP 4,985M, Intangible assets worth GBP 8,182M, performing 7k+ Balance Sheet reconciliations, publishing financial packs for 260+ entities, resetting price of Approx 24K SKUs for 46 supply & 79 Demand entities, managing GBP 1.9 Bn (gross) Cash Management Intervention, GBP 5.7 Bn Intercompany Loan portfolio under management, amongst others. This team manages the following functions
Balance Sheet reconciliations
Journals and Month end close
Banking and Treasury Operations
Financial Reporting
Fixed Asset Accounting
ICO pricing
ICO and Royalty Accounting
Finance System Accounting
Profit in Stock and Brand Trading Relationship Matrix
Finance is an essential business partner in supporting Diageo’s performance ambition to be the best performing, most trusted and respected consumer products company. Our aim is to become the most efficient and effective Finance organization in Diageo and ensure that our finance processes are transformed as we implement SAP S4 Hana. To support this, a transformation of organisational structure, capabilities, internal/external relationships and digital platforms is required within Finance Experience. Building the Future Fit Finance Experience organization is going to be a key enabler to the end to end transformation
The Financial Experience GPO teams along with the FE Governance team is a critical element in delivering the Finance Strategy.
The role of Journal entry GPE will focus on
  • Drive automation and analytics initiatives.
  • Establishing and setting up of a standardised and efficient end to end Journal entry process
  • Global process governance of the Journal entry process
  • Change controls and change management,
  • delivery and execution of BAU Governance activities and process effectiveness monitoring/administration tasks).
  • Process and policy definition and documentation
  • Ensuring process and policy compliance, driving standardization and automation
  • Drive process improvement to drive effective and efficient process operation

Purpose of Role
Support the Finance Experience teams, FC Process Board, Group Functions (Finance), Group Reporting Governance. Markets and Project Managers by:
  • Providing subject matter expertise to the Journal entry process, drive capability build across in FE team
  • Working with the relevant stakeholders define, design, build and roll-out global standard finance processes, strong controls and policies in relation to Journal entry that gives Diageo a competitive advantage
  • Being a great Business Partner to all Regional and Market Financial Controller/ OA
  • Driving standardization and automation agenda, collaborate closely with Technical support teams (both inhouse and 3rd party) on technical solutions supporting Finance strategic initiatives (Automation agenda). Provide input for IS portfolio planning. Align with Group Reporting Governance
  • Bring external best practices for coming up with better ways of doing reporting.
Top 3-5 Accountabilities
  • Analytics: Design and implement analytics across workstream.
  • Process and policy improvement – Overall ownership for the end to end process design. Identify and document global business processes and polices and match functionality to enable market solutioning and system configuration. Playing a key role in process standardization and automation agenda via strategic programs. Initiate global changes, drive implementation and change management on global level.
  • Process governance – Ensuring that we design and deliver solutions that fit with our Finance Strategy. Govern core RTR processes and pro-actively act based on the result of RTR Measurement System. Responsible for fit for purpose briefing of FC Board on a regular basis to support strategic initiatives/decisions and eliminating financial risk. Act as a Global Process Expert independently and provide professional support.
  • BAU support – Ensure continuous control over Journal entry a processes via the RTR measurement matrix for own area as a Global Process Expert. Playing a key role in high-lighting process performance issues to leadership team and governance bodies for resolution.
  • Controls and compliance – Define right controls regarding change agenda and embed into global business processes. Act as a Process owner during the related internal and external audits and ensure accurate audit report is published. Drive and co-ordinate
  • Provide support to define FC governance/FinOps gov change agenda and deliver it successfully
Qualifications and Experience Required
  • Strong knowledge of Analytical tools and prior experience on Financial statement analytics is preferred.
  • Strong financial process, accounting and reporting experience at an operational level. Diageo specific process knowledge is an advantage. If not Diageo specific knowhow, FMCG experience can help.
  • Specific experience and expertise in process review methodology. For example Lean, Six Sigma.
  • Experience to design and introduce global processes
  • Flexibility for adopting to change with positive attitude and relevant experience in change management
  • Solution focused mindset and ability to link change agenda to Strategic goals and deliver them.
  • Great business partnering skills with a desire to make a difference
  • Ability to align multiple stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal English
