Role Description:

This role is part of Arcadis’ Global Excellence Centre (GEC) and will join our 3,000+ talented individuals working in India, Romania, and Philippines, in partnership with Arcadis’ offices globally. To develop industry knowledge of international design standards through internal technical training, certifications and continuing education.

To acquire technical knowledge and practical skills through involvement in various engineering and design projects.

To deliver engineering studies, reports, schedules, drawings, proposals, and/or other design documentation to Arcadis quality standards and client requirements in assigned projects on various stages such as feasibility study or detailed design.

To provide technical support to other team members, interdisciplinary coordination and collaboration in assigned projects/ tasks. Work under the professional supervision and guidance from Senior Engineers, Principal Engineers, and/or Design Managers.

To acquire leadership, people management, and delegating skills.

Role Accountabilities:

The main responsibilities of this role include, but are not limited to:

  • Preparing and reviewing complex reports, proposals, presentations, schedules, drawings, and other documents with the Brisbane, Australia Team in the following areas. Candidate should be able to demonstrate good capability and experience in one or more areas below:
    • HV power systems analysis: load flow, fault levels, dynamic performance, transient analysis, harmonics assessments, induction studies, insulation coordination studies, protection coordination and settings;
    • HV transmission and distribution substations primary electrical design: layout design, specification of plant, cable sizing, cable routing design, coordination of civil design;
    • HV transmission and distribution substation secondary systems design: protection and control design, schematic, IED specification / configuration, determination of protection settings, investigation of protection events, design SCADA and other comms interfaces, substation auxiliary power supply design;
    • LV power distribution system design, main switchboard design, general arrangement, switchroom layout, protection design, arc flash study, busbar sizing, cable sizing, cable containment and routing, schematic diagrams, wiring diagrams;
    • Earthing system analysis and design, earthing layout, earthing schematics.
  • Taking personal responsibility for the assigned project or task. To be proactive in understanding the scope, input gathering, preparation of detailed engineering documentation and leading the engineering effort for project including providing technical and performance oversight for members of the team where applicable.
  • Understand customer need, interpret specifications, codes, regulations, and standards to deliver solutions to complex problems of the customer within the constraints of the project.
  • To manage selected projects, project task/responsibilities as assigned, and/or design processes (or parts of projects) to meet agreed budget, quality, and timeframe targets.
  • To deliver fully documented designs to meet Client objectives and Arcadis system requirements.
  • To develop the technical competency of more junior members of the team and ensure application of the relevant international and national standards and engineering knowledge in various projects.
  • Plan, implement and practice safety in all aspects of work. Participate in Safety in Design workshops, risk assessments, HAZOP, preparing Safe Work Method Statement etc.

Additional Technical Responsibilities:

  • Apply engineering knowledge, techniques, and tools, complying with international design standards and Australian Codes and Standards relevant to assigned project.
  • Follow quality processes for deliverables and design calculations to ensure compliance with the project’s requirements and to deliver the design with high quality.
  • Prepare and record relevant documentation to ensure compliance with Arcadis and customer processes.
  • Regularly liaise with the SE/PE, Design Managers and Team Leaders to keep informed of all developments or changes associated with the project.
  • Participate in various meetings and in the resolution of technical issues.
  • Liaise with other disciplines and ensure all requirements are understood.
  • Learn and apply digital technologies in engineering including REVIT/BIM and other emerging technologies

Commercial Responsibilities:

  • Record man-hour charges accurately into weekly timesheets and ensure correctness of project and non-project man-hour charges.
  • Proactively manage selected projects (or components of projects), take responsibility for resource allocation, manage subcontractors, manage the production of analysis and design (including drawings and reports), ensure the integrity of the overall design (in collaboration with other design disciplines), quality assurance and client feedback.
  • Identify opportunities and driving implementation of re-engineering strategies to maximise the profitability of design components.
  • Where gaps in workload appear, you will be required to support other Electrical groups or undertake training in accordance with the Team training plans

People Management Responsibilities:

  • Resource and develop skills and knowledge base of Assistant and Graduate Engineers assigned to projects.
  • Liaise with Project Manager, BIM Manager and BIM Coordinators assigned to projects.
  • Self-time-management

Others

  • Liaise with Arcadis lead offices representatives and other consultants as appropriate to the project.
  • Working to achieve project delivery on time to budget and to a high standard in accordance with Client expectations.
  • Take responsibility for defined tasks within prescribed limits.
  • Gain experience and proficiency in Arcadis systems and procedures.
  • Become familiar and compliant with Health and Safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required relevant to the role from time to time

Qualifications & Experience:

A candidate applying for this role must have the following qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Possess good organizational skills and have a proactive approach in work execution. Being a self-starter.
  • Have very good electrical power engineering technical fundamental knowledge.
  • Ability to provide solutions to technical problems.
  • Excellent mathematical skills applied in engineering calculations.
  • Graduate of Bachelor of Science/Technology/Engineering in Electrical Engineering from recognized University.
  • 5 years’ relevant experience as an electrical engineer in the power sector, with at least 3 years in an engineering and design consulting environment. (Lesser experienced candidates will also be considered if they can demonstrate capability to this level)
  • Actively continue to develop technical knowledge in power systems and relevant emerging technology skills through regular continuing professional development. Adaptable in an agile environment
HIGHLY REGARDED SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES:

Possessing any of the following skill or attribute will be an added advantage for the candidate:

  • General familiarity with the Australian electricity market, electricity generation, transmission and distribution practices and related topics.
  • Engineering consulting experience in power projects in Australia, UK, Middle East and/or Philippines.
  • Experience in utility processes from concept stage to construction and as-built drawings.
  • Experience in renewables such as solar and wind power generation plants.
  • The ability to develop complex models in PSSE, ETAP, SKM PTW power systems software.
  • The ability to develop cable system / transient voltage studies - ATP, EMTP-RV.
  • The ability to develop cable thermal rating studies and design - CYMCAP.
  • The ability to develop complex earthing and induction models in CDEGS earthing system software.
  • The ability to develop maintenance strategies and procedures, commissioning plans and documentation.
  • Specifying or interfacing with control systems in an HV substations environment.
  • Modelling of connection of significant loads and generators into existing networks and advising on connection agreements.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in design & drafting electrical infrastructure in Australia, general familiarity with the electricity supply industry, electricity transmission and distribution practices and related topics.
  • Have knowledge of drafting and BIM, how to define BIM outcomes, BIM processes, how to coordinate a BIM project within the 3D environment and how to apply design to the models they produce.
  • Drafting standards experience and knowledge and application of functions within CAD.
  • Experience in the production of CAD documentation to Australian Utility Standards or other international design standards.
  • Computational design, design algorithms and automation of data manipulation.
  • Good academic performance.
  • Professional registration with any leading engineering body such as Engineers Australia.
  • Ability to lead, with good influencing, motivating and delegating skills
