Introduction:

As the research and analysis division of the Economist Group, The Economist Intelligence (EI) helps leaders prepare for opportunity, empowering them to act with confidence when making strategic decisions. The EI is the global standard in providing quality, actionable intelligence to the public and private sector, assessing issues that impact the marketplace for over two hundred countries.

We are currently seeking a Finance Analyst to support the Subscriptions business within the Economist Intelligence. This role has become available due to a recent reorganisation of the team.

The role is based in Gurumgram - India with a requirement of at least 2 days in the office.

The role will own the Subscriptions P&L and lead on the financial planning and analysis efforts for the business by providing pertinent and timely analysis of its financial performance. The role will also provide management information including monthly KPI’s and analysis to the business. You will have the opportunity to lead the forecasting and budgeting process and work closely with the Group’s other finance teams to prepare monthly reports for inclusion in management reports. The Analyst will also be responsible for the development of finance systems to increase efficiency and robustness of data.

This role will report into a Finance Business Partner who would also be supporting the Subs business commercially.

Accountabilities:
  • Take ownership of the Subs business planning and forecasting processes.
  • Work closely with the Finance Business Partner to proactively provide insights, identify known and unanticipated challenges as well as opportunities and have the ability to concisely communicate these.
  • Drive operational efficiencies by identifying and implementing systems enhancements that create improved controls, service levels, and process improvements – both within the financial department as well as throughout the organization.
  • Prepare the underlying budget models and presentation for the business. This will require close work with the business as well as the accounting team (both EIU and Group).
  • Work in conjunction with other local and global Finance teams to drive best practice and consistent processes.
  • Support internal customer groups in all finance and accounting matters including budgeting, forecasting, expense tracking and control.
  • Identify and communicate issues to the Finance Business Partner.
  • Provide analysis of financial results and KPI’s to management to support timely decision making.
  • Develop financial models and analyses to support strategic initiatives
  • Conduct ad-hoc analyses and financial modelling to support business decisions and provide insight for the Management team and other stakeholders, as requested
Experience, skills and professional attributes:

The ideal skills for this role are:

  • A university qualification and/or professional accounting certification
  • Extensive FP&A/Commercial Finance experience, particularly focused around planning, forecasting in an international/corporate environment with experience of dealing with executive management
  • Strong financial modelling skills as well as a strong planning and control discipline advantageous
  • Highly analytical and technically proficient skills, be operationally and business savvy, a strategic and independent thinker
  • Business leadership experience with a proven ability to take on and create new solutions achieving effective results
  • Demonstrated problem solving and root cause analysis skills, combined with proven ability to communicate those analysis
  • The ability to deal with adversity and rapidly changing operating conditions while successfully driving complex and milestone driven projects
  • Experience working with large-scale data mining and reporting tools and financial systems
