A retail supervisor isresponsible for overseeing the work of retail staff in a store environment . This includes monitoring employee activity, coordinating shipments and receiving the merchandise into the store alongside helping customers resolve issues as they arise.

Retail sales supervisors are responsible for overseeing and co-ordinating the activities of cashiers, greeters, salespeople, shelf stockers, clerks and order fillers .

Setting goals for performance and deadlines in ways that comply with company’s plans and vision. Organizing workflow and ensuring that employees understand their duties or delegated tasks. Monitoring employee productivity and providing constructive feedback .

Duties and responsibilities

A successful supervisor should be able to perform various day-to-day duties and responsibilities, such as:

  • Accomplishing department objectives by supervising staff and organizing work processes
  • Implementing and enforcing systems, procedures and policies
  • Monitoring employee productivity by providing useful feedback and training
  • Setting performance goals that comply with the organizations plans and visions
  • Ensuring compliance with legal and company policies and procedures
  • Relaying information from upper management to employees and vice versa
  • Handling customer issues that might escalate and require a supervisor for management
  • Assisting in the hiring and firing of employees
  • Controlling budget information, overseeing variances and employing corrective measures
