About the Role

The Project Manager II in the Operations Program Management Office is responsible for the management of key strategic projects that are large, complex and cross-functional. You may also be responsible for providing Operations representation on global project teams and leading workstreams within Elsevier-wide projects. You will be fully knowledgeable of the best practices of project management and will be responsible for multiple projects running concurrently.

Responsibilities

  • Providing direction and purpose for projects and project teams within remit, ensuring that project management best practices and the appropriate project methodology employed is (e.g. Agile); proactively maintain specialized project management skills.
  • Executing projects that deliver agreed business benefits; regularly assess progress against defined plans and stakeholder requirements.
  • Ensuring a secure governance and project structure in place with clear strategic alignment
  • Mentoring members of the project teams to achieve a high level of performance and quality. Create a psychologically healthy environment and promote empowerment of the team. Ensure that each team member is fully engaged in the project and making a meaningful contribution.
  • Ensuring that change management best practice is employed, develop effective communication plans.
  • Communicating progress to steering committee and key stakeholders to ensure a consistent level of awareness, buy-in and support for change of plans.
  • Organising and leading project team/working group meetings; ensuring resources are agreed and roles/responsibilities are clear; prepare/distribute status updates and other project reporting.
Requirements

  • Have a proven history of delivering large, complex projects and at least 3 years of proven project management experience.
  • Have experience with financial and/or logistical processes.
  • Familiarity with project management methodologies, e.g. Lean Six Sigma, Prince 2, PMP, Agile, and tools such as JIRA and Confluence
  • Be a natural communicator, able to engage senior stakeholders and present technical content to a range of audiences.
  • Be able to design and deliver project plans and align project deliverables for successful execution.
  • Enjoy collaborating and leading teams to solve problems and implement innovative solutions.
  • Have experience managing risk and issues and taking ownership for mitigation plans.
  • Have experience of establishing, managing and monitoring project budgets and forecasts
