The opportunity

When Thermo Fisher Scientific product teams need user guides or instructional content for the reagents, software, and instruments we sell, they contact the Technical Communications group. We gather and analyze technical and product information from various sources, then work with each team to quickly deliver high-quality instructions to our customers. In short, we write the content that makes our technology easier to use for the people that want and need to use it!

We’re looking for a Technical Writer II to join our team. Our writers have a passion for writing clear, concise scientific communication. We have a positive demeanor and a desire for excellence. We’re skilled project managers that take ownership of complex tasks and projects, setting priorities and managing schedules. Effective collaboration is key to our success. We build strong relationships with product development teams and other internal partners in the US, the EU, Asia, and other regions.

What will you do?

• Revise technical end-user documentation to support products related to protein and cell analysis.

• Rewrite content from research scientists, product managers, engineers, software developers, regulatory analysts, and other business team members.

• Proactively solicit input from product teams.

• Organize content into topics and procedures following DITA standards and department information models.

• Learn and use an XML-based authoring tool and content management system. You may also work with additional authoring tools as needed.

• Follow all process, style, and brand guidelines.

• Collaborate with a fun and agile writing team to continuously move projects along tight timelines.

• Participate in sprint planning, setup, and retrospectives.

• Manage multiple writing projects simultaneously.

How will you get here?

Education

• Bachelor’s degree in a scientific field.

Experience

• Writing experience in a scientific environment or experience in the life sciences industry preferred.

• Experience writing instructional content preferred.

• Experience with topic-based authoring preferred.

• Experience with XML, HTML, and/or DITA a plus.

• Experience working on multiple projects and setting schedules and priorities.

• Understanding of technical/scientific content.

• Ability to write clearly, concisely, accurately, and quickly.
