Purpose of the Job

The Project Manager in the Research Content Operations (RCO) group is responsible for the management of global projects that are cross-functional and have a high degree of complexity, for the management of sub-projects in global projects and for providing site representation on global project teams. The RCO Project Manager is fully knowledgeable of the best practices of project management. There will be responsibility for multiple projects running concurrently. The nature of the projects can vary, from technical/procedural implementation projects to major reorganization/change implementations.

Key results areas

Project management:

  • Provide direction and purpose for projects within remit, ensuring that project management best practices are employed; maintain specialised project management skills
  • Ensure projects outcomes are delivered as per plan and the agreed benefits are realised; regularly assess progress against defined plans
  • Stakeholder segmentation, management and engagement
  • Risk, issue and dependency management
  • Ensure that change management best practice is employed, develop effective communication plans
  • Mentor members of the project teams
  • Project closures, evaluation and lessons learned

Project governance:

  • Ensure a strong governance and reporting structure in place
  • Communicate progress to senior management and other key stakeholders to ensure a consistent level of awareness, buy-in and support for change of plans if required

Continuous improvement:

  • Act as an agent of change, constantly looking for opportunities for improvement and encourage all staff and managers to do the same
  • Support staff in continuous improvement activities to drive towards solutions or improvements
  • Support staff and management on best way to solve problems (e.g. L6S/implementation/investigation project, RIE, problem solving, just-do-it)

Functional and Technical competencies

  • Some experience in leading and delivering projects/improvement activities
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of the information analytics and publishing industry
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of operational processes
  • Good knowledge of MS Office including Excel/PowerPoint/Visio/Word
  • Can work independently, is a self-starter

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Experiences

  • Bachelor degree or equivalent experience
  • Typically possesses at least 3 years of relevant work experience with a proven history of delivering results
  • Familiarity L6S/PRINCE2/Agile methodology/statistics advantageous
  • Some overseas travel may be required
