Enterprise Technology is identifying opportunities to transform its existing processes and to innovate with new processes, to support our business customers. This means engineering our business processes to take advantage of these opportunities, while being mindful of architecting for multiple, potentially conflicting constraints. This will allow us to deliver simpler, better, faster capabilities across all the functions in scope.

The role holder must have deep experience in architecture, both theoretical and practical, with relevant exposure to Bank processes and functions, while demonstrating a track record of problem solving, innovative thinking and above all, customer focus. The role holder must be able to engage with Fintechs, other external third-parties, business and transformation stakeholders, and engineering teams, bringing all parties together to design transformational, secure and deliverable architectures.

Impact on the Business/Function

  • Lead and own the architectectural relationship with Fintechs and third-parties, to ensure architecture strategy and standards are met for each area of Enterprise Technology.
  • Vendor and product selection to meet Business requirements, while aligning to business, data and technology architecture
  • Define and document architecture and solution designs to meet Business and Transformation requirements
  • Drive new practices, processes, operating model, techniques, products, services, technologies and standards where needed against identified use cases, via the appropriate governance bodies
  • Act as authority for full life cycle architectural guidance to Business and Transformation colleagues to ensure good outcomes and high quality deliverables
  • Enforce a consistent approach to Innovation architecture, promoting patterns and designs across the Enterprise Technology architecture teams, accelerating update of new technologies and opportunities, where appropriate, and simplifying and consolidating the technology estate
  • Execution of PoC/PoVs per area of Enterprise Technology
  • Creation and development of Architecture and Solution Design artefacts
  • Implementation of standards
  • Effective design authority for approving designs and exemptions from approved designs.

Customers / Stakeholders

  • Create innovative, compliant and secure solutions to business problems, owning the deliverables through from ideation to approval
  • Lead the business to define a coherent Innovation-based technology change portfolio that enables delivery of the Enterprise Technology strategy.
  • Own Enterprise Technology Architecture’s relationship with HSBC Transformation and Innovation and with Third-party vendor teams, to deliver innovative solutions to Enterprise Technology’s key challenges.
  • Implement a customer-centred culture to designs.
  • Champion activities encouraging outstanding service and/or enhancing customer advocacy
  • Solutions aligned to Group vision.
  • Embed best practices and goverrnance for the adoption of innovative technologies in HSBC

Leadership & Teamwork

  • Lead architecture or provide consultancy to pods consisting of Project resources, IT resources, Subject Matter Experts and third-party/Fintech resources.
  • Ensure that architectures are implemented consistently across the Chief Information Office function and respective DevOps teams.
  • Build and promote the Enterprise Technology Innovation Architecture network of stakeholders to the wider community.
  • Drive new practices, processes, operating model, techniques, products, services, technologies and standards where needed against identified use cases, via the appropriate governance bodies
  • Continually drive colleagues to achieve high standards and developing, motivating and inspiring high-performance in others.

Qualifications

The jobholder will ensure the fair treatment of our customers is at the heart of everything we do, both personally and as an organisation.

This will be achieved by consistently displaying the behaviours that form part of the HSBC Values and culture and adhering to HSBC risk policies and procedures, including notification and escalation of any concerns and taking required action in relation to points raised by audit and/or external regulators.

The jobholder is responsible for managing and mitigating operational risks in their day to day operations. In executing these responsibilities, the Group has adopted risk management and internal control structure referred to as the ‘Three Lines of Defence’. The jobholder should ensure they understand their position within the Three Lines of Defence, and act accordingly in line with operational risk policy, escalating in a timely manner where they are unsure of actions required.

Through the implementation the Global AML, Sanctions and ABC Policies, supporting Guidance, and Line of Business Procedures the jobholder will make informed decisions in accordance with the core principles of HSBC’s Financial Crime Risk Appetite.

The following statement is only for roles with core responsibilities in Operational Risk Management (Risk Owner, Control Owner, Risk Steward, BRCM, and Operational Risk Function

The jobholder has responsibility for overseeing and ensuring that Operational risks are managed in accordance with the Group Standards Manual, Risk FIM and relevant guidelines and standards. The jobholder should comply with the detailed expectations and responsibilities for their core role in operational risk management through ensuring all actions take account of operational risks, and through using the Operational Risk Management Framework appropriately to manage those risks.

This will be achieved by:

    • Continuously reassessing risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices, management restructurings, and the impact of new technology.
    • Ensuring all actions take account of the likelihood of operational risk occurring, addressing areas of concern in conjunction with Risk and relevant line colleagues, and also by ensuring that actions resulting from points raised by internal or external audits, and external regulators, are correctly implemented in a timely fashion.

The jobholder will adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls and will implement the Group compliance policy by adhering to all relevant processes/procedures.

The term ‘compliance’ embraces all relevant financial services laws, rules and codes with which the business has to comply. This will be achieved by adherence to all relevant procedures, keeping appropriate records and, where appropriate, by the timely implementation of internal and external audit points, including issues raised by external regulators.

The role holder will have a track record of strong execution capability and be able to demonstrate the following:

  • Extensive, practical experience of designing technology solutions in complex organisations.
  • Proven experience of horizon scanning and landscape assessments for technology innovations
  • Experience of metrics-driven vendor selection processes
  • Experience of successfully defining scope and execution of multiple, parallel PoC/PoVs
  • Strong leadership skills with experience managing virtual teams comprising technology subject matter experts, Business stakeholders, Fintechs and other consultants across geographical boundaries.
  • Exceptional drive, commitment and focus with track record of delivery.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills with experience in a complex global environment.
  • Strong communicator with excellent oral and written skills.
