Job Description

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for a civilian Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Davis Monthan Air Force Base in Tucson, AZ. This contract position offers:

Job Requirements

The position will have the following requirements:
  • Graduate from academic program accredited by the ACEN or CCNE
  • Masters degree in nursing
  • Certified in Psychiatric and Mental Health as a Nurse Practitioner by the ANCC, AANP or a recognized national nursing organization
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in specialty with at least one year within the last two years
  • Minimum of one year experience in mental health for adults, individuals, families, couples
  • Any current and unrestricted State License as a Registered Nurse
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS Certifications
Main Job Duties
  • Provide a full range of outcome-based nurse practitioner services in accordance with privileges granted by the
Military Treatment Facility (MTF) (e.g. supervise and provide general screening and medical care and examinations

of patients for routine, acute and chronic conditions involving any and all organ systems; provide immunizations;

diagnose, treat, and counsel patients as indicated. Complete comprehensive/psychiatric mental health assessments,

diagnosis, short-term individual, couple, family and group psychotherapy and medication prescription as delineated

by the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee, and monitory for acute and chronic psychiatric illnesses).
  • Technically direct and teach other staff, provide evidenced-based educational lectures and participate in inservice
training to staff members.
  • Diagnose and treat patients with common acute conditions, chronic illnesses, or minor trauma within accepted
protocols, clinical practice guidelines, Nurse Practice Acts, and/or in consultation with a physician.
  • Interview patients and/or significant others to obtain and record clear, logical and concise psychiatric and health
history. Perform physical assessment as indicated.
  • Develop treatment plans that sets goals to meet identified mental health needs, evaluates response to
interventions, review treatment plans and reevaluate as necessary according to applicable regulations.
  • Provide psychiatric/mental health care to patients, and their families, through crisis intervention, individual,
group and family therapy.
  • Provide accurate psychiatric diagnoses and formulate treatment plans both independently, and within a
multidisciplinary team.
  • Assess patients. Complete evaluations, consultations, and referrals appropriately. Order various tests (e.g.,
laboratory, neurological, and psychological) as indicated. Order and monitor the appropriate lab studies to assist in

competent and safe diagnoses and to substantiate medical intervention. Persist in close follow-up of any abnormal

findings with appropriate physician referral.
