Design Engineer Specialist

This Job Matters as it provides leadership in the service management and test & diagnostics engineering space. The role will provide technical expertise, delivering software solutions that provide business value and meet customer requirements, including necessary designs, documentation, automated testing, deployment and in-life support. The role leads a team transforming and operating the service management and test & diagnostics area.

You’ll have the following responsibilities

Manages a team to deliver complex and large scale technology development and solutions

Applies technical expertise to provide direction and make commercial decisions focused on wider converged technology lifecycle, setting roadmaps and defining and driving towards a desired future state

Drives developer enablement, governance structure and operating model

Stakeholder relationships (senior customers, vendors, suppliers) and facilitates mutually beneficial negotiations to develop solutions, ensuring they meet current and emerging business and technical needs.

Proactively solving business problems and dealing with uncertainty e.g. demand profile planning including location, skill and resource. Manage paradoxical problems on improving the quality of delivery against reducing overall costs.

Leads on Technology transformation as a lever to transform BT’s commercial performance and operational efficiency.

Successfully executed business change/s & smart business solutions which results in customer experience improvement, cost savings or revenue opportunities for BT

Commercial & Risk Awareness:Experience in evaluation of the obvious and subtle commercial risks/issues/challenges especially in relation to a programme/project. Experience in determining the appropriate commercial solutions.

Software Development Concepts:Experience with the use of a wide range of programming concepts including (but not limited to): recursion, multi-threading, memory management, garbage collection. Aware of and has applied a range of algorithms, for example related to sorting and searching. Excellent understanding and experience of cloud native application design principles (like micro-services, stateless application meant for cloud, containers etc.)

Technology Skills

• Strong experience in development of large, scalable applications using Core Java,J2EE, Spring and Hibernate

• excellent hands-on experience in building enterprise web applications and REST based services

• Familiarity/Experience with container technologies, e.g. Docker, Kubernetes etc.

• Knowledge on CI/CD tools like, Jenkins, Git

• Experience working on or leading agile development teams (ideally leveraging Scrum or Kanban)

• Experience with Spring, Spring Gateway, Spring Security, Spring MVC, Spring Integration, Spring Data & Spring Boot

Change Management:Experience in transforming solution design & delivery to improve quality & cost and being able to identify and prove concepts for future technology.

Education:B.E./B.Tech or equivalent practical experience
