Overview of Technology Infrastructure at Zilingo

Technology infrastructure at Zilingo, consists largely of 70+ microservices that span over multiple cloud providers in multiple geographies to serve customers and business round the clock. Microservices are written in a mix of Java & Scalaon top of the Playframework with Akka, communicating usingRESTful APIsand asynchronous messaging over Kafka. These services handle specialized tasks such as Logistics, Inventory-management, Recommendations, Search, Data collection and syncing. The modularity allows rapid development, which is further enabled by fast testing and simple deployment due to our robust DevOps systems (Chef/Jenkins). All this supports two different applications (Consumer-facing and Merchant-facing) over three different platforms (Web, Android, iOS).

Zilingo’s data warehouse technology uses streaming updates over Kafka for real-time data analytics. The backbone of the data warehouse is an Impala query engine that queries real-time data stored in Kudu along with historical data in S3/Parquet.

Core-Infrastructure And DevOps Team at Zilingo

Infrastructure development and automation runs primarily over Kubernetes, Terraform, Chef, and several other tools. With dev teams taking full ownership of their own microservices deployment and performance, DevOps team enables them with fully automated platforms like CI/CD, Observability stack (Prometheus, Grafana), Log Aggregation (Graylog), Consul, along with enabling Big Data platform over Apache Hadoop technologies. DevOps team enables seamless operation of components such as Apache Kafka, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Apache Druid, Apache Flink, PostgreSQL including all the internal microservices by building infrastructure for them to massively scale-out and stay resilient with high availability. Each of the infrastructure components has fully automated monitoring and alerting pipelines in place and all this while still being super cost effective.

What is the job like?

• Duration - 4 to 6 months

What you will need?

• Curiosity for on the job learning and experimenting with new technologies and ideas
• A good background in Linux environment
• Experience with at least one scripting language (Ruby/Python/Groovy)
• A good understanding of the Internet and how things work at the backend of it.
• Understanding of Server technologies will be preferred.
• Experience in any of the Devops tools like Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, Chef or platform like AWS will be preferred
• Any other DevOps related experience will be accounted for
