Our Team & Position Summary

Business Services: This team is invested in building a compact, robust organization that includes service operations and technology solutions for Finance, People, Associate Digital Experience (ADE). They also deliver a host of functions including procurement, supplier portfolio management, merchandising master data, and analytics. From building HR chatbots and virtual assistants, to designing invoicing solutions and facilitating legal changes, Business services helps drive efficiency and flexibility across every part of Walmart’s global presence.


Enterprise Business Services @ IDC Bangalore and Chennai in India are focused on data driven, highly optimized products and implementations in the areas of Finance, Procurement, Human Resources and Retail business functions for multiple Walmart markets with open stack technologies and other ERP tools.

Position Summary:

  • The position is that of a leader who will be based out of Chennai and will oversee operations across a wide range of domains and technologies with teams being present both in Chennai & Bangalore
  • In terms of technologies this will span a range of technologies across Mainframe, Java, OpenStack & Package Technologies.
  • In terms of domains, this role will need to own operations across a whole gamut of products used for Time & Attendance, Payroll, Core HR, Recruitment etc.
  • Given the diverse and broad set of technologies and domains, we will have a set of teams each dedicated to one or more domains and this role therefore will be one of oversight, leadership & accountability
  • In addition to managing a team of ~ 100 + resources across Chennai & Bangalore, this leader is expected to manage senior stakeholders - senior members (Directors & Above) of the Global Tech teams in Bentonville and other locations
  • The ideal candidate is someone who has managed IT Development/ Support / Operations teams at scale in large Product and or Service Organizations. An added feature would be specific exposure & experience to have managed delivery and operations for applications / products in the People Domain – Recruitment, Learning, Payroll, Benefits Admin etc.

Position Responsibilities:

As a Director at Walmart India Delivery Center in Chennai, you’ll have the opportunity to lead multiple disciplines of Application Management teams focussed on our multiple product suites under People Technology. You will enable smooth transition of new applications to support along with vendor transition into Walmart. You will help in building & managing high performing teams that can work directly with global markets in maintaining and supporting global solutions and scalable local solutions in line with the global design. You will be challenged with complex business problems that spans across multiple countries, highest number of users and the highest data volume in the world. You will be responsible for managing applications driven by SLAs and KPIs.

  • Build, develop and guide high-performing talent to support Java/Open stack/ERP/Legacy applications in production in People tech domain.
  • Define, set and monitor operational excellence practices to identify, monitor, and address support and system performance issues
  • Ensure SLAs and KPIs are adhered to. Ensure RCAs done and proactively identify problem areas and come up fixes.
  • Engage with Enterprise Services leadership in Walmart Technology, BV (Bentonville) in setting up strategy and priorities for the team and in delivering best services to the business customers around the globe
  • Create a collaborative environment across geography for delivering best services to the customers around the globe
  • Own and manage budget planning, spend and tracking for your area of responsibility. The budget will be across headcount and 3rd party contractors.
  • Promote and support company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity.
  • Provide supervision, mentoring and development opportunities for associates and managers who report into you.

Position Requirements:

Minimum qualifications:

  • Graduate with 20+ years of experience in setting up and managing support teams
  • Experience in supporting complex applications/products across multiple technologies such as Java/Open stack/ERP/legacy with functional knowledge in People Systems
  • Define operational excellence practices and ensure they are carried out uniformly.
  • Proven ability to design and deliver global enterprise solutions that are flexible, scalable and aligned to local needs while operating within a global framework
  • Experience developing long-term strategies and influencing leadership decisions
  • Good experience of working with globally distributed teams in a collaborative and productive manner
  • Experience in managing teams across geographies to manage support and operations.
  • Experience in strategizing and delivering innovative solutions with speed and quality by aligning stakeholders across different pillars.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, good with people, ability to negotiate
  • Experience across the product development SDLC with agile practices

Additional Qualifications:

  • Good experience of working with globally distributed teams in a collaborative and productive manner.
  • Understand the product and project management space with Agile methodologies.
  • Specific exposure & experience to have managed delivery and operations for applications / products in the People Domain – Recruitment, Learning, Payroll, Benefits Admin etc..
