Software Developer - SN Digital, Pune

We’re looking for talented and motivated engineers to join our team at Springer Nature. The job is based in Pune, Maharashtra and you will be working with team members and stakeholders in London/Berlin.

About the Unit

SN Digital (SND) is a technology division of Springer Nature. We are responsible for maintaining and delivering millions of articles used by researchers, scientists and students around the globe.

There are 250 of us in London, Lisbon, Berlin, Pune, New York, Madrid, Dordrecht, Heidelberg. We work in collaborative, multi-disciplinary delivery teams, developing digital products and services that answer user problems and support business goals. The work is interesting and meaningful. THE WORK

Springer Nature has a portfolio of over 3,000 peer-reviewed journals and books across all areas of science. The Content Acquisition programme you’ll be joining is looking at the systems and processes across our imprints, and is working to create a world-class submissions experience for our global audience of academic researchers and editorial staff.

Job Location: Magarpatta City, Pune - India (Work from home until further notice)

What we are looking for

Educational Qualification:
B.Sc., BCA, BCS, B.E., B.Tech, M.Tech, MCA and M.Sc.

The Role:
We need people who can
Code sensibly. We don’t need code golfers. We really love code that we can read and understand. If you code regularly in JVM Languages, you can apply right-away!
Take pragmatic decisions around how work is accomplished. We would like our devs to strike a balance between idealism and fit-for-purpose.
Understand more than just jargons around Agile, SOLID, KISS, YAGNI. You have seen the best and worst of all different ways of working and understand the need for processes or the need to not have them either.
Pick up anything out of their comfort zone and see that it gets delivered. You accept and learn from your mistakes. You rejoice in your achievements.
Curious and confident about learning new languages or tech stacks. We would like that you share your knowledge with our dev community and be happy to learn from them too.
Be passionate about technology but not crazy about a specific language.
Ready to work in legacy as well as brand new platforms.
Communicate politely, professionally and effortlessly with everyone from your peers and business stakeholders to the local chaiwala.

What you’ll be doing
Within 3 months

Understand the product that you are hired for. Self-learn. Self-scale up. Pair with your teammates.

Get the full knowledge of the technical platform that we work on.

Familiarize yourself with our ecosystem, our CI/CD processes, our ways of working, our support functions and our gazillion remote collaboration tools.

Be able to showcase your learnings on the project back to the stakeholders.

Within 6 months

Have faith in yourself and step out of your comfort zone. Assist your seniors and gain their trust in handling tasks independently.

Identify areas of improvement. Identify technical debt. Seek feedback.

Have constant communication and feedback with your stakeholders and colleagues.

Adhere to the quality standards for delivery.

Be active in the dev community.

Let your knowledge and work shine through.

What you need to bring with you

You should have at least 3 years relevant experience in Grails

Knowledge of JQuery & Bootstrap would be a big plus.
