The Hitachi Energy Indian Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 1500 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi Energy’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.

Your responsibilities

  • Providing technical direction of high value customer solutions (Market Management Systems) in coordination with Global Product Managers, Global Product Development Managers, and Local Operations, engineering and sales managers.
  • Designs solutions which comply with various Cyber Security guidelines.
  • Defines operating guidelines for team and facilitates problem solving.
  • Oversees progress within area of responsibility, identifies, and manages technical issues.
  • Drives team performance to ensure that deliverables are met on time, as per contract, safety and quality requirements.
  • Facilitates best practice sharing within the organization.
  • Guides, motivates, coaches, and develops team members and other senior technical staff.
  • Manages customer relationships at senior technical level, develops long-term relationship with key customers.
  • Works with the customer to shape and deliver solutions – seeks feedback and innovates with the customer to drive and deliver improvement.
  • Drives development of processes and practices based on customer feedback.
  • Works with business development to pursue new opportunities.
  • Identifies and helps manage contractual risks resulting from proposed solution.
  • Ensures relevant input for Product Roadmap and Product Development prioritization decisions.
  • Ensures correct assignment of tasks within the technical team, defines relevant performance metrics.
  • Creates work plans and cost estimates.
  • Initiates and drives continuous improvement activities.
  • Develops, implements and improves relevant processes, policies and procedures to improve effectiveness across the engineering function.

Your background

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Computer Science with graduate level specialization in at least one of the core technologies relevant to centralized computer control and operation of electric transmission/distribution.
  • Minimum of 15 years technical experience with at least 10-years of mission critical solution deliveries within the SCADA/EMS/DMS/MMS field for solutions of different sizes, up to at least 10 MUSD.
  • Minimum 10 years of Software Development Management experience with sound understanding of the full software development lifecycle including cost estimation practices; ability to select, coach, and evaluate senior technical staff at the levels of principal engineer/consultant and senior principal engineer/consultant.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in supporting global business development activities as Solution Responsible: helping develop sales strategy and tactics.
  • Ability to interact collaboratively with technical and managerial professionals at all levels and functions, comfort with intellectual disagreement.
  • Ability to think strategically and analytically and connect a variety of internal and external inputs into an actionable direction and recommendation.
  • Ability to construct, tailor, and deliver messages to internal and external executives, through one or more media to build logical and persuasive arguments.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Microsoft Visio, Microsoft Project.
  • Understanding of financial and resource forecasts.
