IT OPS - Linux Infrastructure Engineer

SUMMARY:

The candidate will bring expertise to a growing and innovative organization and will play a key part in implementing a progressive, cloud-focused computing environment. Reports to a Regional IT Operations leader. The Linux Infrastructure Engineer works as part of the IT Technical Operations Team to maintain server, storage and technical assets.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deploy, configure, and maintain Linux servers running Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and Alma Linux distributions.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and support scalable Linux-based infrastructure solutions.
• Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform proactive maintenance to ensure high availability and reliability of Linux servers.
• Implement security best practices and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
• Automate routine tasks and streamline processes using scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) and configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible).
• Manage software packages, patches, and updates using package management systems such as YUM and DNF.
• Participate in capacity planning, performance tuning, and optimization of Linux systems and services.
• Provide technical guidance and support to junior team members and assist in knowledge sharing initiatives.
• Stay abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends related to Linux systems and open-source software.
• Understand the importance of 24/7 uptime and are willing to participate in an on-call rotation to support it.
• Experience with building and deploying monitoring services with a broad knowledge of performance and capacity process management.

  COMPETENCIES:
• Strong proficiency in shell scripting and automation tools such as Ansible, Puppet, or Chef.
• In-depth knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and services (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, LDAP, etc.).
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native technologies.
• Experience with virtualization technologies (e.g., KVM, VMware) and containerization platforms (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) is a plus.
• Demonstrated collaboration skills including listening, writing, and speaking.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze problems and understand the necessary components of a solution through analysis, planning, testing and reporting.
• Strong attention to detail to diagnose problems and ensure that solutions address the problem.
• Demonstrate proficient ability to capture and document software/hardware issues.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively manage project activities with and through internal relationships across all internal teams.
• Demonstrated accountability in project ownership and solution-oriented work approach.
• Planning, organizing, setting objectives and managing time to meet deadlines.

• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or equivalent experience
• Relevant certifications such as RHCE (Red Hat Certified Engineer) or LFCE (Linux Foundation Certified Engineer) are desirable but not required.
• Proven experience in Linux system administration and engineering roles, with a focus on Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and/or Alma Linux distributions.
• Experience supporting Windows Server configurations a plus
• Understanding of networking and security concepts
