Position: Head of Academics

Reports to: CEO - Sports Insititue

Purpose of the role:

Head of Academics (HOA) is responsible for assessing student athletes’ academic needs and addressing the academic advising needs of individuals or groups of student-athletes through appropriate interventions.

Specifically, the HOA will manage a learning skills program that emphasizes early identification of academic concerns, makes appropriate and effective referrals, builds confidentiality safeguards, develops needed academic support programs, and monitors student-athlete progress, while fostering academic accountability. The focus will be on promoting the successful academic and personal transition of student-athletes to autonomous, independent learners.

Essential Responsibilities:

Leadership and Management of People:

• Recruit and manage a group of tutors that will be responsible for providing academic support to student-athletes.
• Manage a roster of tutors.
• Designate and supervise study hall/ library area.
• Build an Effective Academic Support Team.

Develop, implement and monitor quality academic support plans:

• Maintain an individual folder for each student-athlete.
• Assesses each student athlete’s academic strengths and weaknesses.
• Develop an academic plan to help strengthen student-athletes who have weaknesses.
• Maintain constant check of student athletes’ grades and conduct.
• Distribute and collect student athletic progress reports.
• Document in student athlete’s folder all communications with student-athlete concerning academics.
• Leading student lessons as required.

Communication:

• Maintain communication channels with various academic programs/institutions that student-athletes are engaged in (Open School, CBSE Schooling, etc.)
• Communicate with CEO and Head Coaches concerning student athlete’s grades and attendance.
• Attend the parents/guardians meeting that Sports institute will have with all student athletes’ parents/guardians.
• Be the primary point of contact for parents regarding academic matters.
• Participate in parent/ teacher conferences if required.

Educational Qualification and Work Experience:

• University Teaching Qualification.
• Teaching experience of at least 10+ years.
• Managed a team of Teachers

Competencies

• Knowledge and understanding of the Indian Academic landscape.
• Knowledge and understanding of multiple curricula that are utilized in the Indian Academic landscape.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; teaching experience preferred.
• Ability to build a good rapport with a variety of role players (coaches, parents, schools, etc).
• Attention to detail and successful organizational skills.
• Problem-solving skills, dependable, cooperative, multi-tasking, responsible, and patient.
• Computer proficiency.
• Ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule—evening work and possible weekend work will be required.
