Job Description


Overall Purpose of the Job

This role of Network head it to provide strategic and operational support to global network including datacenters, sites, partner locations across Australia, Asia, North America, Europe and Africa. This includes the support and maintenance of the data communication and security services, with a focus on availability and performance of Toll’s corporate network for Toll lines of business. The role includes interacting with global network service and infrastructure suppliers, Toll business units and GIS project and support teams.

The role will contribute to the development and release of new products through the provision of operational advice, technical expertise and provisioning of resources to install and upgrade new systems. As a hands-on technical expert, it is expected that opportunities for operational improvement will be identified, planned and executed, as well as providing mentoring and training to other team members whilst undertaking the day to day scheduled maintenance, service requests, changes and incidents.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Managing team of Network Manager(s) and Leads based in TTC and Australia
  • Identify gaps and improvement areas around problems, architecture and propose new solution business case
  • Plan for seamless integration and / or implementation of new services with minimal or no impact to business in terms of downtime or cost
  • Provide expert level technical support on Networking Infrastructure and Security Equipment, troubleshooting and fault rectification of high-level technical issues related to networking equipment and services.
  • Interlock with peers on issue / problem resolution where exact root cause is unknown and arrive at common consensus to resolve and avoid future incidents
  • Provide support and communication with Managed WAN providers and act as an interface for technical issues.
  • Assist migration and set up of new sites and network infrastructure nationally and globally.
  • Undertake and assist with Network provisioning, project delivery and network changes as assigned.
  • Assist the designing, planning, implementing and maintaining corporate data communications network and security services, components and associated infrastructure.
  • Ensure the agreed monitoring, management and proactive maintenance tasks are scheduled and completed.
  • Participate and contribute to Toll network standards and the evolution thereof, in conjunction with Toll Infrastructure, domestically and internationally.
  • Providing guidelines and training in the use and maintenance of networking equipment, systems and facilities.
  • Monitoring the performance of the organization’s communications carriers/network providers in relation to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and business needs, via installed tool sets.
  • Testing, implementing, monitoring and tuning networking software/hardware to ensure optimum systems performance and highlight potential issues.
  • Managing the analysis of network traffic data and providing recommendations on performance improvements to network infrastructures as appropriate.
  • Liaise with external providers, to provide support for systems, software and hardware.
  • Provide technical consulting on project designs and validation of operational requirements
  • Manage the support shared knowledge base, creating and updating documentation on network environments, infrastructure and support processes.
  • Develop and maintain operational acceptance procedures, to ensure adequate operational support handover from projects and acquisitions.
  • Ensure the correct configuration, security and integrity of all systems and software managed by the team, including escalating any risks or issues.
  • Ensure all managed configuration items are correctly documented, backed up and recoverable.
  • Be a point of escalation for technical support of IT services.
  • Evaluate, communicate and escalate risks and problems to Operations and Service Managers.
  • Monitor, forecast and report on capacity on the managed systems and platforms, including providing recommendations on performance improvements to network infrastructures as appropriate

  • Client requirements, are collated, analysed and option solutions presented for evaluation.
  • Incidents management within agreed Service level agreement.
  • Changes/Projects are delivered on agreed timelines.
  • Effective design solutions to the program requirements.
  • Creates and maintains technical documentation, reports and records regarding network infrastructure.
  • Delivers benefits against what was predicted in the business case ensuring that all participants are informed and involved throughout.
  • Organisational policy and strategies are adhered to.
  • Collaborates with stakeholders at all levels, in the conduct of investigations for strategy studies, business requirements specifications and feasibility studies.
  • Prepares business cases which define potential benefits, options for achieving these benefits through development of new or changed processes, and associated business risks.

Skills essential to the Job

  • Experience and specialist skills in the configuration and maintenance of networking/communications infrastructure, including the ability to support a variety of product like Cisco, Checkpoint, Nortel, F5, Radware, Braodcom etc
  • Knowledge of industry standards and government regulations relevant to data communications/networking.
  • Use of Service management tools – ServiceNow, HP Service Manager and Network Node Manager.
  • An understanding of emerging technologies in the communications sphere and their potential commercial application.
  • Strong Enterprise Skills in Router Hardware/Software (Nortel and Cisco), Switch Hardware/Software (Nortel and Cisco), Radware/F5 load balancers, Protocols (TCP lP/lPX lBM), Routing Protocols, Firewalls (Nokia/Checkpoint IPIX).
  • Strong Enterprise Skills in WAP, APN network and GPRS mobility services.
  • Operational knowledge of networking systems and software covering both Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), Load balancing, firewall administration, Intrusion detection, plus others.
  • Proven analytical and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of Cloud (Public and Hyvrid), VoIP and IP Telephony at a technical layer.
  • Experience with large migrations to Microsoft Cloud platforms – Office365, Azure
  • Proven experience managing commercial and technical engagements with hardware vendors, Systems Integrators
  • Experience designing, and implementing business technology change plans involving large scale end user technology upgrades
  • Experience and understanding of business and IT needs in logistics and transport operations (desired)
  • Experience working with 3rd party (outsourced) IT providers and/or system integrators
  • Planning and conducting workshops to translate business requirements in to a ’fit for purpose’ solution

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science / Engineering or a related discipline


Professional:

  • Professional: No less than 15 years’ experience in a similar role where there is demonstrated ability to lead and perform.
  • Cisco Certified (CCNA/CCNP) and Security Certified (CCSP, Checkpoint)
  • ITIL V3 Certified
  • Excellent Communication skills
  • People & Process Management Exp.
