About the role


The purpose of this role within the Endpoint and Compute team is to provide specialist analysis, design, development and deployment for the wider Security Engineering and Cyber Security teams

This includes developing technology roadmaps that aligns with Security strategy to deliver capability solutions that increase Telstra’s overall Cyber Security posture

Key accountabilities

The role will be part of a highly-skilled, virtual group of technical resources to deliver solutions and tools used to protect Telstra’s Corporate network and increase the overall Security posture of Telstra while supporting all aspects of the Cyber Security business with leading-edge, workable and, cost-effective technology advice and solutions to the business.

This position provides the resource and skills for the ongoing support of the Security Engineering, Endpoint domain. In particular, the role will lead the domain for Vulnerability Management Security tools such as Qualys along with having a strong focus and understanding of Endpoint Technologies more broadly.

The key accountabilities for this role are:

  • Provide subject matter expertise - Provide the technology team with knowledge of complex end-to-end systems and processes for a business initiative on an as-needed basis. Provide a single-point design authority for the life-cycle of nominated systems.
  • Align systems with product and technology strategy - Understand product and technology roadmaps and assist in developing solutions that both align with the roadmaps and leverage opportunities from evolving and future technologies.
  • Solution design and traceability - Translate complex domain and solution architectures into platform-specific requirements and designs. Translate and/or map business requirements to capabilities.
  • Solution implementation - Deliver quality end-to-end systems that meet the user needs (e.g. operational requirements, cost and schedule constraints, performance requirements, training needs, support). Work with delivery partners to integrate multiple technologies, platforms, and business processes to ensure the delivery of the end-to-end solution. Manage integration and resolve issues related to inter-working between components.
  • Manage stakeholders - Manage expectations of key business stakeholders (including internal and external customers), drive change, and negotiate successful outcomes within complex environments.
  • Manage vendors - Manage vendor delivery and reviews with the support of the vendor management team.
  • Identify risks, issues, and mitigating actions - Identify risks and issues in deploying system solutions and develop or recommend solutions to mitigate these risks and issues. Manage agreed mitigation or contingency plans to completion.
  • Lifecycle management - Develop and implement plans to ensure the system meets capacity, performance, and availability criteria. Work with the technology manager to appropriately forecast investment and manage to defined budgets. Identify and drive product unit cost reduction through simplification, rationalization, and new technology. Assist with the management of technology vendors and substantial technology investment.
  • Knowledge management - Develop extensive knowledge of new and emerging systems, including leading industry (e.g. best of breed) and competitor solutions. Contribute to the development and maintenance of the corporate memory/database for the business and area of expertise. Add to key business, program management, and technology processes based on experiences gained.
  • Comply with standards and processes - Comply with all relevant company processes (e.g. AGILE /Technology Delivery Process, network change processes) and ensure all deliverables meet or exceed defined quality standards.

Qualifications/experiences

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering / Computer science / IT
  • 5+ years experience in network and/or security design. Specialist in the field with experience in a technical role for IT/security projects
  • Experience in network and/or security domain.
  • Positive Attitude and willingness to learn with training as well as on your own
  • Understanding of security technologies for Vulnerability Management and Endpoint Security more broadly.
  • Vulnerability Management Security tools such as Qualys.
  • Previous project delivery/implementation experience as a system/network administrator

Good to have:

  • Relevant industry certifications, such as CCNA/P, CCIE, MCSA/E, VCP, AWS, Splunk, Juniper
  • Cybersecurity certification, e.g. CompTIA Security+, CISSP
  • Coding expertise is a bonus
  • Previous project delivery/implementation experience as an Infrastructure Delivery Manager
