Due to the current health crisis related to COVID-19 and the escalating visa/travel restrictions in place, we’re currently unable to extend offers to anyone who cannot work from India due to lockdown visa/travel restrictions, or other restrictive measures until further notice. Consequently, we will be prioritizing candidates who can start in this location by set date as expected. We’re keeping the situation under review and would adjust our position should the restrictive measures be removed later on.

Minimum qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 8 years of experience in Android development including coding experience in Java and/or Kotlin.
  • 6 years of technical leadership and people management experience.

Preferred qualifications:
  • Strong written communication skills with experience writing technical blogs and/or articles.
  • Experience in developer relations and/or with teaching (professionally or as a volunteer).
  • Experience working with third-parties or technical partners, including giving talks in a public forum - or desire to learn.
  • Active track record in the Android development community.

About The Job

Apps that people love are essential to a vibrant ecosystem. The Android Developer Relations Engineering team is on a mission to help people build great apps with the latest Android and Play features, empower anyone to get a great career as an Android developer, and advocate for developers as Android and Play evolve.

As a Technical Lead, not only will you be managing a team of Developer Relations Engineers, but you will also write code that is used by millions of developers, create and deliver content to help them learn, help shape the direction of Android APIs, grow the Android developer community, and more. We’re a highly cross-functional team and work with partners in engineering, marketing, and other partner-facing teams - and of course, with Android developers in the community.

While much of our output is content, engineering is at the heart of everything we do. In order to teach developers how to use these technologies, we first have to understand them deeply ourselves.

Through these hands-on experiences and through conversations with developers, you may even lead changes to improve the developer experience on Android.

Responsibilities

  • Staff and manage a team of Developer Relations Engineers.
  • Partner with one or more product teams across Android & Play to help developers successfully use the latest features, tools, and APIs being produced by these teams.
  • Produce sample code for new APIs and tools - often working as “customer zero” and giving early feedback to product teams to help ensure these features are developer friendly.
  • Create content including tutorials, screencasts, videos, blog posts, podcasts, and more.
  • Interact with developers and give talks, in the India region in particular, through events, community forums, slack, and social media.
