Position Title:

Lead Formulation Chemist - Paint and Coating


Position Summary:

Formulation Chemist is responsible for developing product concepts based on unmet/underserved needs for architectural paint & coating market. The position will partner with synthesis chemists in business and corporate R&D, marketing, sales and technical service to develop and launch additives for CAS (coatings, adhesives and sealants) segment with compelling value proposition that can be demonstrated through formulation work to customers. The position requires significant level of collaboration with global R&D, commercial/marketing teams and customers understand unmet needs, performance targets, benchmarks, and establishing test protocols etc. and support application projects as needed.


Job Description:

  • Evaluating performance of additives (under development) in target formulations to understand structure-property relationship and finding ways to optimize them to meet target performance desired.
  • Develop innovative products based on Silicone/Silane or hybrid materials with differentiated value proposition for paint and coating customers.
  • Effectively manage multiple projects ensuring clear alignment of goals, objectives and deliverables with the needs of the business and the marketplace.
  • Develop promotional documents and literature for new product introductions.
  • Work effectively with a cross-functional team including technology, marketing, sales, manufacturing, etc.

Competencies

  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with CAS formulations, additives and structure-property relationship.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and to function effectively as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Proficient in basic statistics and Design of Experiments (DOE).
  • Excellent English written and oral presentation skills.
  • Working knowledge of routine PC applications (e.g., MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint).

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ph. D. or a M.S. degree in chemistry, chemical engineer or equivalent discipline Minimum 7-10 years for PhD (or 10-15 yr for a M.S. degree holder) of hands-on industrial experience in formulations and new product development for paints and coating segment.
  • Experience in waterborne coating, paints, especially for architectural market is highly desirable.
  • Prior experience with formulating silane/silicones in coating systems will be an added advantage
