Job Description Summary The Lead Grid Integration & Simulation Engineer provides essential support for customer proposals and orders. As a member of the Land Constraints (LC) Grid Engineering team you will lead project specific power system evaluations and configure turbine / wind farm control solutions to adapt to site specific requirements. You will also perform power systems analysis using dynamic & EMT simulation and analytical tools. You will interact regularly with customers, commercial and sales teams, project engineers and new product development teams to evolve our grid interfaces strategy and find creative ways to differentiate the GE offering for every opportunity.

Job Description
Essential Responsibilities

You will:
Configure grid electrical simulation models of turbines and wind farms, and work with customers and grid operators to apply those models to system integration and connection studies.

Leading and executing electrical power system studies (including proposing, planning, managing, performing analysis and reporting out) to meet the needs for reliability and performance of emerging grids with increasing share of power electronics equipment.

Performing independent analyses of steady-state and dynamic performance as well as conducting different types of modeling and simulation.

Simulate converter, turbine and plant level controls/ interactions to evaluate project specific grid requirements.

Translate grid connection requirements into product capability specifications for new products.

Work with the commercial team to assess scope and risk with respect to grid code compliance (division of responsibility between GE and the customer).

Support customers and sales in answering questions and resolving grid code concerns for wind farm proposals and orders.

Support customers’ grid acceptance tests and issue resolution with utilities, TSOs and ISOs.

Partner with Energy Consulting and the technology office to lead process and method development for strategic positioning of GE technology in future bid opportunities. Develop depth and expertise in wind turbine capabilities and their interaction with the electrical Balance of Plant, Distribution and Transmission systems.

Identify opportunities to influence grid code requirements and collaborate in grid code committees to improve GE’s products and documentation based on grid requirements and trends.

Work closely with world class experts in GE Energy Consulting and design engineering.

Available to travel 10% of time.
Qualifications/Requirements

Masters or PhD degree in electrical or electrical power engineering from an accredited college or university

Minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience

Strong experience in electric power engineering, modeling, simulation and power electronics grid application and performance evaluation.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills (e.g. ability to effectively communicate with all levels of GE and customer).

English fluency. Strong communication skills. Experience in generating and delivering customer-facing technical documents & presentations.

Desired Characteristics

Experience in the renewable energy industry

Experience in wind turbine electrical systems

Experience in controls or component-level power conversion equipment

Analyzing and providing mitigation and protection solutions regarding grid control coordination, resonances, control interaction and sub-synchronous torsional interaction

Power flow, dynamics, harmonics, short circuits and protection modeling and analyses

Development and/or application of technical and regulatory codes and standards

Proficiency in performing power systems analysis using dynamic & EMT simulation and analytical tools, such as following: PowerFactory, PSS/E, EMTP-rv, PSCAD, ATP/EMTP, RTDS, Python, GE PSLF, MATLAB, MS Office.

Strong experience in programming languages (C++, FORTRAN, etc.)

Experience applying grid code requirements for power plants or wind farms.

Experience providing technical support to sales, commercial and marketing functions. Customer negotiations for technical and commercial topics during ITO

Demonstrated leadership and project management skills

Demonstrated willingness to take on team deliverables personally

Strong influencing and team building skills

Ability and willingness to accept challenges outside of technical expertise / comfort zone

Global experience with proven ability to work with international teams
