A logistics operations manager runs a distribution facility, and deals with shipping companies and freight brokers to ensure that distribution operations run smoothly. A logistic operations manager may have certification or even a degree in a transportation field. Logistics operators ensure that the right goods leave the distribution facility on time, in the right quantity and are bound for the right destination by the most cost-efficient means. A logistics operations managers workday can include running a direct distribution center. A logistics operations manager ensures that incoming materials from suppliers are in good order and are properly stored, and that outgoing parts and the materials for customers leave in the correct amounts and are in good condition. Throughout the day, the logistics operations manager may negotiate with transportation companies about rates or service levels; he may prepare documents; or he may review invoices and customs documents. A logistics operations manager may need to look into and resolve issues with suppliers, customers, transportation companies or employees. He also may review distribution center workloads with other departments, coordinating with the schedulers and planners.
