44’000 new and existing suppliers globally this is the number for which in this position being part of the TPLR team you will be able to support driving the TPLR risk levels to an acceptable labor rights and human rights risk level. With this you are having a high impact on the organization. You will also be able to drive improvement projects with strategic and preferred third parties for LR third party portfolio in close collaboration with the Human Rights, ESO Organization, other risk areas and Third Party Risk Management. Ultimately you will help to ensure that Third Party labor risks and human rights risks to a certain extend are managed in a holistic and consistent manner that enhances Novartis’ capability to build and protect value for our stakeholders and patients, and advances the broader interests of society as a whole.

TPRM Labor Rights Team is part of the Center of Excellence Employee Relations and reports functionally into the Human Rights function within the Ethics, Risk and Compliance organization. The TPRM Labor Rights Team is growing and seeks to hire an extra expert, with potential to grow, who will cover the labor rights risks for third parties throughout the full life-cycle from initial assessment through onboarding, ongoing monitoring and periodical compliance refreshments and where needed off-board

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
  • Support: Across clusters supports responsibilities of TPRM risk management activities for Third Party Labor Rights & Human Rights, over time after thorough onboarding taking over a cluster (several countries) and such responsibility by its own
  • Assess: Assesses the outcomes once the third party has completed the third party LR questionnaire, reviews the responses and assesses whether the third party can be engaged, maintained or whether a more extensive due diligence is required with support from a Risk Function Specialist
  • Collaborate: Involves appropriate experts (e.g. from Legal, Health Safety Environment, Ethics Risk& Compliance and Human Rights) to perform suitable due diligence in cases where the outcome of the more extensive due diligence still leaves open important questions
  • Classify & engage: Prepares reporting outlining the outcomes of risk assessment activities identifying any risk indicators and the recommended action resulting from the gaps identified and works closely with the third party and local business stakeholders and facilitates discussions between these functions when / where required. Understands the cause of overdue actions and escalates to appropriate people to help resolve issues
  • Monitor: Revises, verifies and confirms the adequacy of remediation actions carried out by third parties. Performs direct and indirect monitoring activities defined by the TPRM program
  • Record: Records outcomes in the TPRM technology and maintains documents collected as part of the due diligence process (e.g. questionnaire, reports, evidence of any additional inquiry, internet search etc.)
  • Audits: Prepares and leads or oversees third party audits, assessing whether third parties are acting in compliance with Novartis’ LR requirements and international/local labor laws
  • B&DL (M&A) deals: Supports TPRM labor rights risk assessments in the area of potential M&A deals

Minimum requirements

What you’ll bring to the role:

  • University Degree equivalent with minimum of 5-10 years of practice
  • Detailed knowledge of Third Party Labor Rights issues globally. Pharmaceutical or chemical industry experience preferred and Passionate about labor rights, employee welfare, human rights
  • Experience of ‘ethical trade’, human rights, sustainability etc. for a large buying organization or audit organization
  • Specific experience with following-up and closing CAPAs and sufficient seniority to pull through closure of issues
  • Good levels of organization and initiative, thorough and careful as well as ability to work independently with minimal direction and support
  • Good written and spoken communication and argumentation/negotiation skills to liaise with suppliers and potentially difficult internal management discussions
