Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking an Area Lead Surveyor (LQW) for the Mining & Metals team, based in Peru. The position will be responsible for providing direction to the surveyor’s crew supporting construction work. Performing fieldwork in accordance with the project Survey Work Request procedure and associated records. Providing detailed input to the Lead Surveyor for the lead’s use in maintaining a log of all electronic drawings files to facilitate locating said files.

Responsibilities

The Area Lead Surveyor (LQW) is principally responsible for:

• Performing specific field survey tasks as directed by the Lead Surveyor.

• Daily survey activities and supervision of a survey crew.

• Ensuring that survey work is performed safely.

• Having a strong understanding of digital data transfer from Design Engineering and has proficiency in the digital data work process.

• Ensuring all survey work is fully documented and recoverable.

• Producing survey CAD drawings, including as-built drawings.

• Performing calibration baseline checks of survey equipment.

• Ensuring all survey equipment used by his crew is regularly maintained, checked, collimated, and calibrated.

• Ensuring construction survey computations are clearly laid out and checked.

• Perform verifications of subcontract survey work

• The preparation and computation of field stakeout data from design drawings and the accurate interpretation and representation of data captured in the field, including volume determination.

• Acquiring the capability to perform and check survey computations.

Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

The Area Lead Surveyor (LQW) shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

• Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or scientific discipline, AND Specialized courses in drafting, design, and engineering practices, OR Extensive experience in design and drafting.

Additional Qualifications

• Demonstrated capability and proficiency in construction surveying techniques and experience supervising survey field crews. A tertiary qualification is preferred.

• Five years minimum construction survey experience, with at least one year of crew supervision experience.

• Conversant with basic mathematics relative to surveying.

• Must possess fundamental drafting skills relative to preparing as-built survey sketches and drawings.
