Job Profile Summary
Role Synopsis - The role reports to the head of policy & regulatory affairs and will be an integral part of the India communication and advocacy (C&A) team. The role requires close working relationship with various businesses / functions; and in specific the low carbon businesses like solar, wind, biofuels, hydrogen, EV charging etc.
Purpose of role -Gather intelligence on India’s long term decarbonization plans, scan / monitor the competitive landscape and identify potential opportunities for bp. Develop and execute a robust stakeholder / advocacy plan: build strategic relationships with relevant government / regulatory bodies, think-tanks and trade associations to advocate for low / zero carbon policies. Advocate for climate friendly policies: drive policy reforms in support of bp’s investments in low carbon and mobility businesses in India, including securing regulatory approvals.
Key Accountabilities - The role will directly support advancing bp’s low carbon and mobility businesses in India, including new opportunities across bp’s strategic framework.
Intelligence and analysis -Gather intelligence on net zero / decarbonization plans for the country, industry peers etc. Work closely with the business to build and analyse scenarios based on research and data. Regularly update and provide inputs on evolving priorities and policy reforms, for e.g. battery swapping, mobile fueling, momentum on hydrogen etc.
Position bp as a “greening company”,developing positions based on science-based targets and agreed global / national positions and reflective of India’s needs.
Develop and execute a stakeholder engagement plan to drive the net zero/ decarbonization agenda -Engage with key Government stakeholders and regulatory bodies including:
Drive policy reforms in support of low carbon and mobility solutions businesses -Actively advocate directly and through industry bodies for policies that support net zero, including carbon pricing and enable bp’s business plans in India. Influence and develop enabling frameworks for cleaner/ sustainable mobility options, including LNG for trucking, sustainable aviation fuels, electric vehicles, charging infrastructure, battery swaps, working closely with existing (Reliance) and future business partners. Monitor and advocacte for a supportive policy framework for new technologies like hydrogen (green and blue), CCUS. This could include green funding, subsidies for cleaner energy R&D and policies in support of deployment of new technologies.
Essential Education and experience - Public affairs / advocacy professional with 15 – 18 years of experience, part of it in low carbon energy. Strong communicator– proficient in written and spoken English. Education: an engineering degree will be preferred; in addition to an MBA from a premier institute. Experience in renewable energy or/and clean mobility solutions, with experience in policy advocacy and regulatory affairs with regulators, central and/or state governments. Ability to develop and maintain external stakeholder relationships, commercial mindset / sound business understanding, strategic perspective and delivery focus.

- Participate in public policy consultations, proposals or suggested reforms in line with the developed positions
