The Department of Medical Genetics at The University of British Columbia (UBC) invites applications for a fixed-term full-time Research Associate.

This position is located within a health-care facility. Therefore, this position requires successful verification of full vaccination against Covid-19 provided prior to the start date, as required by the provincial health mandate.

The UBC Department of Medical Genetics pursues basic and clinical research for the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of genetic disease. Reporting to Dr. Mahmoud Pouladi , the successful candidate will hold a PhD in Human Genetics and have at least 6 years’ experience in laboratory research involving stem cells; demonstrated experience working with human pluripotent stem cells and their neural differentiation; experience using CRISPR/Cas9 to generate knock-in/knock-out in human pluripotent stem cell lines; experience using IncuCyte live imaging and multi-electrode array systems; experience with flow cytometry and confocal imaging with lasers; experience with flow cytometry and confocal imaging with lasers; experience in molecular biology techniques such as western blotting, immunofluorescence staining and imaging, PCR/qRT-PCR, and immunoprecipitation; and experience analyzing omics data including differential expression and enrichment analyses.

Responsibilities Include
  • Development and leading of cellular phenotyping pipeline for neural and non-neural cells; including differentiation of human pluripotent stem cells into neural progenitor cells, neurons, cerebral organoids, oligodendrocytes, microglia, and non-brain cell types (hepatocytes).
  • Quality and quantity assessment of generated cellular profiling data
  • Proficiency in using the IncuCyte Live Cell Imaging and multi-electrode array systems
  • Expertise with genome editing for establishing isogenic human pluripotent cell models
  • Experience with forward genetic screens using arrayed/pooled CRISPR/Cas9 mutagenesis
  • Performing regular reviews of the relevant literature
  • Planning and designing of projects and day-to-day experiments
  • Direct generation of multi-omics data (transcriptomics, proteomics)
