Senior Counsel,Global Real Estate Legal

The Legal Department is responsible for the provision of legal services to the Firm worldwide, and is organized by legal entity and practice groups that conform to the organization of the Firm’s lines of business and corporate staff areas. This structure encourages legal teams to communicate legal and regulatory changes to the businesses and staff areas and for the lines of business and staff areas to communicate business developments that have legal or regulatory implications to the legal teams in a timely manner.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Hong Kong-based Asia-Pacific Regional Head of Global Real Estate Legal (GRE Legal), the responsibilities for the Mumbai-based Senior Counsel , GRE Legal include the following:

  • Work with internal stakeholders and external legal to update and standardise contract templates including construction contracts, materials purchase agreements, service agreements, consultancy agreements, NDAs, POs, and all relevant documents for use across APAC as may be required due to changes in local law, regulations or company’s policy
  • Handle contract review requests on standardised templates and prepare summary of common changes for purpose of contract refinement based on experience, vendor feedback, or market practice
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders on project pipelines and update contract review tracker regularly, prioritise contract review requests and set up meetings with internal stakeholders to go through contracts where required
  • Track status of contract reviews with internal stakeholders and execution of agreed contracts, and maintain a shared drive containing all signed project agreements for the region
  • Review renewal leases and renewal maintenance agreements against existing contracts
  • Track contracts from initial contact through closing including conditions precedents and conditions subsequent pre/post contract signing
  • Facilitate communications and organise meetings between internal stakeholders and external law firms and brokers
  • Review and verify local external law firm’s invoices and time sheets

Qualifications

  • Qualified attorney with minimum 6-8 years PQE
  • Inhouse experience on commercial real estate transactions, design and construction related matters. Experience gained from a major law firm may also be considered;
  • Prior experience with vendor procurement and construction related contracts is strongly preferred but not essential;
  • Strong written and oral communication and project management skills
  • Ability to develop and maintain solid client relationships
  • Must be willing to learn, business-minded, and meticulous
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and within tight deadlines

CONFLICTS OF INTEREST:

All candidates for roles in the Legal department must successfully complete a conflicts of interest clearance review prior to commencement of employment.

LICENSING:

Qualifications: JD or educational equivalent required. Attorney candidates must be in compliance with all relevant licensing requirements including the requirements of the jurisdiction where the role will be located prior to commencement of employment.J.P.
