Decentralised energy systems can provide clean, low cost energy whilst helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Across Buro Happold’s global practice our team of energy specialists is working on projects at building, campus, district and city scale, harnessing renewable and low carbon energy sources to provide secure supplies. Our clients cover industrial, property, mobility and energy sectors with work ranging from feasibility and business case development through to detailed design and delivery as well as research and policy led commissions.

The Cities Energy team specialises in energy system policy, planning, design and delivery at campus, city and regional scales. We aim to deliver value for our clients using distributed energy to resolve energy security, costs and sustainability challenges across the range of sectors and markets in which BuroHappold operates. We are looking for a passionate energy analyst to help us drive this agenda and deliver energy solutions for the 21st century.

We are seeking an experienced energy engineer in India to work with our global team. You will develop strong technical peer support structures to the global energy team with responsibility for leading our work on projects in India.

You will be responsible for a diverse range of activities, from detailed analysis and reporting to leading graduate and engineer level staff, leading projects and handling client relationships across our portfolio of clients.

What can I bring to the role?

  • An understanding of energy systems in the built environment
  • A Knowledge of Indian energy policy and regulatory drivers of energy and carbon efficiency across a range of project scales.
  • You will bring knowledge of, and experience working with utility companies to obtain quotations and agreement on connection provision for new developments and/or energy systems.
  • Consultancy experience, including project management and client relationships, and supporting the preparation of proposals.
  • Co-ordination with other specialists including civil engineers, water specialists, structures, MEP, bridges and highways to ensure the successful implementation of energy systems
  • Greenhouse gas emissions calculations
  • Modelling of energy systems such as: solar PV, solar thermal, energy storage, district cooling/heating, power generation, combined cooling heat and power
  • Strong written and verbal interpersonal skills, ability to communicate detailed design and technical subjects to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work autonomously and make design decisions.
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Ability to work to deadline.
  • Professionally qualified preferably in mechanical, electrical, Building Services or civil engineering discipline with a minimum 6 years’ experience in a related field.

Desirable Skills

  • Design experience of any of the following: solar PV, solar thermal, energy storage, smart grids and power networks, energy centres, district cooling/heating, power generation, combined cooling heat and power.
  • Experience of working on international projects
  • Coding, data analytics, automation of design and analysis.
  • A good awareness of design beyond own discipline.
  • Large-scale master planning experience.
  • Experience in GIS packages including ArcGIS or QGIS
  • Ability to work in Civil3D or Revit or equivalents

Academic Requirement

  • BEng or MEng, plus (desirable) further MSc.
