Position Summary

Bechtel is seeking a Superintendent Crane and Rigging for the Mining & Metals team, based in Peru. The position will be responsible for supervising site personnel and Contractors for equipment movement and lifting operations. Inspects all equipment before issuing a site access pass and keeps an equipment log of all equipment once approved for site use. Inspects and monitors all rigging gear used on site. Responsible for implementation of Bechtel Standard Work Process Procedures. Ensure crane operators and signal persons are qualified to perform duties on the project site as per Bechtel procedures. Coordinate equipment movements and lifts on-site between all areas and contractors as directed.

Responsible for supervising and directing equipment operations within the contract scope, including: assessing and certifying claims for payment, extensions of time and variations to the contract, confirming contractor’s compliance with the requirements of the contract and for answering queries related to construction. Supervises and directs contractors, subordinate supervisors and others, as assigned. Ensures assigned construction operations and contractors performance are in compliance with specifications and within schedules and budgets.


Responsibilities

Superintendent Crane and Rigging is principally responsible for:

  • Completes equipment and rigging inspections and approves for mobilization to site and use.

  • Completes scheduled and random inspections on site of all contractor equipment and rigging gear to ensure project standards are maintained

  • Reviews the maintenance of fleet equipment and maintenance of service documents.

  • Monitors fleet usage.

  • Oversees equipment maintenance systems reporting and equipment records management.

  • Reviews equipment operating cost budgets.

  • Monitors the activities of proposed subcontractors or vendors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.

  • Provides training to ensure adherence and understanding of safe equipment usage requirements and practices.

  • Knowledge of the following equipment (or equivalents): Caterpillar Earthmoving Equipment, Demag, Liebherr, Manitowoc, Terex and Grove cranes, JLG, Gradall, IR forklifts, JLG and Grove Manlifts, along with Caterpillar, Cummins, and Perkins engines.

  • Has understanding of equipment warranties, performance guarantees, and equipment fitness for use.

  • Knowledge of multi-discipline construction and or operating functions.

  • Knowledge of heavy-industrial equipment management work processes and procedures.

  • Provide leadership for safety, accident and fire prevention on the project. This includes safety orientation, preparation of safety procedures and leading Bechtel and subcontractor safety meetings.

  • Inspect site for unsafe conditions and practices and take appropriate corrective action to correct breaches.

  • Coordinate safety training and enforce safe work practices at all times in conjunction with the Environmental Safety and Health Supervisor.

  • Assure all rigging is done in a safe manner.

  • Champion the cause of ZERO Accident Philosophy.

  • Ensure that Bechtel and local/national safety codes, requirements and standards are being complied with within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Responsible for supervising and directing craft and supervisors in an Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC) execution strategy.

  • Ensure the most current design document is provided to craft and subcontractor to complete work, and that all design changes are approved prior to implementation.

  • Monitor the activities of direct craft and subcontractors to ensure compliance with specifications and schedules.

  • Responsible for the cost, schedule and optimization of craft labor and maintaining the three-week look-ahead schedule for labor and equipment.

  • Review and approve all direct and subcontractor equipment mobilization and demobilization.

  • Responsible for implementing corporate project policies, procedures and instructions.

  • Coordinate established area operational plans.

  • Review and approve the manpower and equipment required to execute the job.

  • Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management.


Qualifications and Skills

Basic Qualifications

Superintendent Crane and Rigging shall be knowledgeable and/or experienced in:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or another relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of nine years relevant work experience, or 15 years relevant experience in the absence of a degree.


Additional Qualifications

  • Knowledge of EPC Execution as well as use of Contractor(s) and Subcontractors and their responsibilities.

  • Knowledge of construction technologies.

  • Knowledge of supervisory functions relating to field activities.

  • Familiarity with current industry quality standards.

  • Demonstrated commitment to Environment, Safety and Health (ES&H). Demonstrable commitment to a Zero Accident safety program.

  • Extensive experience in construction on large projects.

  • Aluminum Smelter and Middle East experience preferred.
