The Hitachi ABB Power Grids Operations Center (INOPC) is a competence center with around 1400 skilled engineers who focus on tendering, engineering, planning, procurement, functional system testing, installation supervision and commissioning. However, over the last decade, it has evolved to become the largest engineering hub. The India Operations Centre is a key aspect of the Power Grids business Power Up transformation program. The INOPC team at Chennai supports Hitachi ABB Power Grid’s units in more than 40 countries across a wide portfolio of all the four business units in Power Grid business. To date, the team has executed engineering and commissioning for projects in more than 80 countries.

Your responsibilities

  • Short term planning with Operating Unit –Project scope & Resources.
  • Support lead engineers in project scheduling and deliveries.
  • Defines & ensure the quality process within the team.
  • Implement & maintain training, process and tools within the team.
  • Implement operational development. (e.g. Productivity improvements) for the team.
  • In consultation with reporting manager, implement steps to improve the full cost (cost per resource).
  • Monitor the implementation of the agreed scope expansion plans and raise alarm in case of deviation.
  • Measure and improve the KPI/Goals for team & regularly review performance against targets.
  • Technical support to the team for execution and participating in reviews with Operating Unit.
  • Regular project reviews with the project teams.
  • Recruit engineers as agreed with Business.
  • Ensure that the area of responsibility is properly organized, staffed, skilled and directed.
  • Guide, motivate and develop subordinates.
  • Review and ensure the development of team technical competency.
  • Provide necessary inputs to the reporting manager for implementing talent management activities within the team.
  • Ensure implementation and compliance of OHS group guidelines.
  • Ensure IS security policy followed in the team.
  • Acts as role model for the team.
  • Living core values of safety and integrity, which means taking responsibility for your own actions while caring for your colleagues and the business.

Your background

  • A Bachelor degree in Engineering or related discipline.
  • Min of 10 years of experience in execution of System projects with a min of 3-5 years in leading the team with technical excellence in secondary engineering, substation projects.
  • Ability to navigate the matrix and set priorities while working with different operating units (global scope).
  • Excellent communication/influencing and stakeholder management skills in a global, multi-layered environment.
  • Strong English language skills (oral and written).
  • Pro-active and result-oriented attitude.
  • Additional language is a plus.
  • Availability to travel abroad.
