We have heard too many complaints from senior engineering leaders that admin tasks are taking away all the enjoyable parts of their work, and that they would be much happier getting their hands dirty digging deep into the code. Leading an organization shouldn’t force you to give way to bureaucracy and step aside from what you really love: coding.

At Trilogy, management doesn’t simply mean oversight. It means making important technical decisions. We are looking for a dozen technical leaders like you to draw insights from the code-level details and make important technical decisions on a daily basis. These systems and process architecture decisions will set a high quality bar for all products so that our customers across platforms all get the benefit at scale.

Some of the technical decisions that were recently made include: changing our deployment model from doing a release every week to shipping every merge; choosing Typescript over Javascript or Python to implement backend software for all our new products.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Analyzing system-wide problems and opportunities to improve our software quality, getting deep into the code.
  • Making important technical decisions to improve the quality of the entire software development operation. Finding ways to make all of our software better.
What You Won’t Be Doing
  • HR and administrative management. We want your technical expertise. We will never waste your time doing performance reviews, committees, etc.
  • Overseeing steady-state operations. Our culture is continuous improvement. If it’s bad, fix it. If it’s good, make it better.
Basic Requirements

Vice President Of Software Engineering key responsibilities
  • Technical/quantitative university degree.
  • 5+ years of experience with coding or architectural design. You’ll have to pass a coding test to get this job.
  • 5+ years of executive experience running enterprise software development. You need to have developed software at scale.
Nice-to-have Requirements
  • Experience using deep work blocks to maximize quality and output
  • Experience working 100% remotely with asynchronous communication dominating how you collaborate
  • Cloud development experience, especially AWS
