We are currently seeking an experienced professional to join our team in the role of IT Project Management Consultant

Principal responsibilities

The IT Project Manager (ITPM) is responsible for end to end delivery of projects i.e. from initiation to implementation. The ITPM must adhere to the HSBC agreed processes, methodologies and group standards. The ITPM must strive to deliver the assigned project within the agreed scope, budget timelines and with a high degree of quality. The ITPM is responsible for all project decisions and must understand the business objectives as well as delivery constraints from Engineering and be able to strike a good balance between the two. The incumbent must have strong interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills to be able to face off tough business stakeholders and negotiate targets and outcomes that are realistic and benefit both business and IT.

Wholesale IT team have embarked on the agile journey. Most of the deliveries are now executed with Agile methodologies at its’s core. In this role the candidate may be expected to manage 1-2 scrum teams. This role also acts as a coach for the teams on agile. The role is expected to bring in latest industry trends in agile and tailor those to wholesale IT delivery needs. This role brings in a cultural shift in terms of value stream aligned deliveries. This role is also expected to have some sound knowledge of project management activities.

This role will carry out some or all of the following activities. Project Management job holders will hold most or all of these responsibilities:

  • Drive the establishment of effective project controls, procedures and quality assurance processes.
  • Lead the project approach, building stakeholder buy-in around the project plan, commitments and changes.
  • Provide management to maintain a focus on how the project aligns to wider programme objectives, where appropriate, and to the change portfolio across HSBC
  • Promote and take accountability for project quality; identify opportunities to improve delivery
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Drive the adoption of HSBC project standards and work in alignment with HSBC project methodology at all times.
  • Plan and analyze costs, tracking operating and capital spend
  • Report progress, issues, dependencies and risks to project or programme leadership and committees as appropriate and make recommendations to influence decision making in order to maintain progress towards delivery and benefits realization.
  • Manage team activities which include people management, performance management and professional development.

As an agile lead the key responsibilities are:

  • Guiding the team and organization on how to use Agile/Scrum practices and values to delight customers
  • Guiding the team on how to get the most out of self organization
  • Guiding the team on self organizing to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks
  • Assessing the Scrum Maturity of the team and organization and coaching the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization
  • Removing impediments or guiding the team to remove impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment.
  • Facilitating getting the work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating the work.
  • Facilitating discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
  • Assisting with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and radiating information
  • Supporting and educating the Product Owner, especially with respect to grooming and maintaining the product backlog.
  • Providing all support to the team using a servant leadership style whenever possible, and leading by example

Qualifications

Requirements

The candidate:

  • Must have worked as a project manager, managing end to end deliveries in a software development team.
  • Must hold a graduate degree
  • Must be extremely well verse with IT project management, stakeholder management, project planning, budgeting, risk management, change management.
  • Strong team player and initiative taker
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and fast learner
  • Should have an appetite and desire to initiate change and execute strategy
  • Cultivates a collaborative and cooperative attitude
  • Should appreciate and respect for local cultures, and ability to both influence and work effectively with them
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills (written and spoken)
  • Should be comfortable with both detailed reporting and executive communications
  • Should have excellent organizational skills - able to efficiently manage multiple work streams when working under pressure
  • First level Scrum Master certification (PSM I, CSM).
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a software development team.
  • Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
  • Knowledge of numerous well documented patterns and techniques for filling in the intentional gaps left in the Scrum approach (example: numerous Burndown techniques, numerous Retrospective formats, handling bugs, etc.)
  • The ability to distinguish between what "is Scrum" what is "not Scrum"

Good to Have:

  • PMP/PRINCE II or any other project management certification is a plus.
  • Second or Third Level Scrum Master certification (PSM II, PSM III, CSP, CTC)
  • Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least two years for a software development team.
  • Experience being on multiple Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc.)
  • Track record of continued and recent education in Scrum, including training, conferences, user groups, self-study, etc.
  • Knowledge of other approaches discussed in the Agile space: XP, Kanban, TDD, etc.
  • Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, ATDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Testing, Pairing, Automated Testing
  • Project management fundamentals and experience of working as IT Project manager is an added advantage
  • Team Management
  • Experience in JIRA added Advantage
  • Ownership of the task and End to end tracking
