About this opportunity.

Working with Monotype’s dynamic and friendly global legal team, you will report to our US-based Chief IP Counsel and work closely with our UK-based Team Lead as a vital part of an incredible initiative to help Monotype protect its intellectual property worldwide.

You will be part of a new and exciting team that directly supports Monotype’s efforts to educate unlicensed (and underlicensed) font users on complicated IP issues. You will be a valued adviser, providing meaningful documentation and support to its Legal Counsel who represent Monotype in high value negotiations and disputes.

This is a highly dynamic, fast-paced role and the right candidate will need to be a self-starter, curious and compassionate team player to succeed.

How you will make an impact (Responsibilities):

• You’ll be conducting infringement research (trademark and copyright infringements of Monotype IP) and producing court-proof documentation;
• You’ll be collaborating with various teams at Monotype, including Sales and Market Research (plus any relevant external partners) to advise on whether font use is unlicensed and / or enforceable copyright infringement;
• You’ll be creating and administering infringement files, including coordinating with business teams on process innovations and improvements, responding to factual questions on infringement and license compliance matters and partnering with Monotype’s legal team; and
• You’ll be supporting Monotype IP Enforcement and legal initiatives to improve their effectiveness.

What we’re looking for (Desired Profile):

• Bachelor’s degree in law or equivalent work experience / certification.
• Minimum 1 years’ experience at a law firm, contract management organisation with a focus on intellectual property or in the legal department of a company (preferably a software related company).
• Good understanding of intellectual property law with practical experience in infringement matters and disputes an advantage.
• Good understanding of contract law with practical experience drafting and reviewing commercial contracts an advantage.
• Strong problem solving skills.
• Highly organised and responsive.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Excellent or fluent English skills (written and oral).
