Member of Technical Staff: CloudHealth DevOps Engineering Team

What is primary need, technical challenge, and/or problem you will be responsible for?
You will bring knowledge to the table which will help us augment and reinvent the processes which keeps development running smoothly at CloudHealth. You will build out new systems to fit new needs and are not skittish when it comes to improving an already-deployed system. You look to learn about technologies outside of your realm of expertise from your teammates and are passionate about teaching them likewise. Furthermore, you wish to have an impact on the largest number of other engineers possible.

Your Opportunity
Within your first 3 months of employment, you will:

  • Collaborate with geo distributed DevOps team, Engineering leaders, Technical Architects and existing engineering teams to design, develop, and publish software, processes, and workflows supporting a highly available, fault-tolerant SaaS platform.
  • Maintain and actively harden infrastructure shared among multiple development teams.
  • Develop and deploy software and infra that will help drive improvements towards the availability, management, and visibility of services.
  • Build out continuously deliverable application deployment workflows using Helm, Jenkins, and Kubernetes.
  • Assist development teams in becoming self-sufficient in designing microservices architectures, supported by Docker and Kubernetes.
  • Participate in service-level monitoring, metrics gathering, and an on-call rotation using Wavefront and Sensu, and PagerDuty along with running blameless post-mortems, runbooks updation and automation.
  • Work across the company to identify and implement new ideas and mature existing processes.
  • Actively solve problems using modern open source technologies and techniques.
  • You will take part in the on-call rotation for these and other critical systems. You will be driven to make on-call one of the best parts of the job.

A good programming (development) background and understanding of System administration is a must, and specific experience with Linux operating systems, Kubernetes, AWS and Docker are required. To be successful, you will need a strong technical orientation; be a creative problem solver, solving operational challenges through automation; be motivated to advance in the field; and work well in a team-oriented environment. We are looking for highly passionate engineers who have a strong self-directed work ethic, a nimble mindset, and a strong personal ownership of system quality.



What type of work will you be doing? What assignments, requirements, or skills will you be performing on a regular basis?
Key team member and a technical leader of geographically-distributed the DevOps Engineering team, you will:

  • Involve in service design discussions and influence design in terms of best practices around service onboarding and operationalization, which includes monitoring and resiliency.
  • Help define and test KPIs and SLOs.
  • Ability to analyze and optimize performance in high-traffic Internet applications.
  • Work on analysis, optimization and scalability design of Petabyte scale SaaS application.
  • Run Linux-based systems in a production environment.
  • Run Kubernetes in a production, customer-facing environment.
  • Work as 1st line of defense, for incoming incidents triggered by automated alerting systems and work on establishing/maturing process and tooling for the team.
  • Demonstrate experience with CI/CD tools.
  • Debug complicated issues with others in a group setting.
  • Learn new tools and technologies to serve new purposes.
  • Program in atleast 1 programming language Java, Go, Rust, Python or JS.
  • Troubleshoot issues in production as non production against defined SLA.
  • Implement infra as code using 1 or more technologies among: Ansible, Terraform, Salt Stack, Chef, etc.
  • Require limited supervision and direction; drive results and set priorities for self and pizza side team independently.

Requirements:

  • Background with Computer Science fundamentals (based on a BS or MS in CS or related field)
  • Knowledge in DevOps, DevSecOps, Compliance and Audit of SaaS services.
    • 2-3 Years of experience in similar role.
  • Proficient in at least one programming language Go Lang, Rust, Java, Python, Node js, C++ and SQL.
  • Proficient in at least one - Terraform, Ansible, Python
  • Familiarity with at least one micro-services development framework, eg spring boot, DropWizard, etc.
  • Knowledge of Linux Systems Admin and Database at Minimum.
  • Familiarity with logging and monitoring technologies such as Nagios, Log Insight, DataDog, Wavefront, Splunk, vROps, AppDynamics, New Relic, Rollbar, Sentry etc.
  • Experience in designing and maintaining cloud-based solution with AWS, Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills — must be able to work effectively as part of a project/ program team and foster team cooperation.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate technical information to both technical and non-technical personnel.

Ability to work in team environment, while being self-directed, proactive and action oriented.
