Summary Description

Analyze and oversee strategically themed and aligned investment portfolios. Develop and manage strategically aligned opportunities, community-based projects and collaborations. Assist in providing support to grantee organizations in areas of capacity building, connecting organizations to resources resulting in increased innovation, organizational efficiencies, sustainability and improved community health outcomes. Working in partnership with community organizations to facilitate strategic grant investments that build relationships that focus on community-driven collaboration and grant stewardship . Serve as the primary contact for grant applicants and awardees who have questions about the process, procedures and compliance.

Essential Duties
  • Monitors a strategically themed and aligned portfolio (currently 26-36 grant programs), ensuring strong relationships with funded partner, programmatic accountability and compliance with the grant contract and goals.
  • Supports the development of trust-based grantmaking by understanding key tenets and best practices.
  • Develops and manages
  • Assists grantees with the development, evaluation and revision of program-specific deliverables and outcomes, grant contracts, reporting requirements, compliance requirements, and other information.
  • Use portfolio management techniques and practices to determine the type of investments MHM may want to pursue, and which investments would have the greatest community impact. Makes recommendations to the Community Investment Manager for strategically aligned grantmaking opportunities, based on Board priorities. Contributes to design of new strategies, collaborations and implementation plans, including co-investment opportunities.
  • Evaluates grant programs in progress, ensuring programmatic accountability and compliance with grant agreement, operational guidelines and program reporting requirements.
  • Develops, cultivates and maintains relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Conducts evaluative site visits and program audits to build and maintain positive grantee relationships while reviewing grantee program impact, compliance, and opportunities for capacity building.
  • Stays current on grantmaking evolving practices and works to incorporate best practices into MHM’s work.
  • Maintains grantee database (GIFTS Online by Blackbaud or similar software), generating notices, reminders and reports. Responsible for accuracy and updated information.
  • Produces statistical reports and individual data or profiles about grantees. Manages hard and soft grantee files and prepares reports for leadership use with the Board of Directors and Board Committees; ensures timely status updates in grants database.
  • Works closely with MHM Accounting Department on details of grant terms and compliance.
  • Serves as a connector, working with public and private entities, grantees, and other stakeholders to expand MHM’s positive impact on health outcomes and grantee capacity.
  • Interacts appropriately with all levels of staff, including Directors and CEOs.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education And/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree required. At least 3 years’ experience in grant-making, community development, community engagement and/or related fields preferred. Basic knowledge of budgets and financial statements preferred. Experience managing or serving on grant review teams is preferred.

Language Skills

Able to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures or government regulations. Write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers as well as the general public. Must be able to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Must be able to write routine reports, and correspondence. Must be able to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization (diverse audiences). Must be fluent in English. Bilingual Spanish preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Able to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, and statistics. Strong data visualization/presentation skills preferred.

Reasoning Ability

Able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Able to interpret a variety of instructions written, oral, diagrams or schedule form.

Computer Skills

Adept at Microsoft Office Suite with high level skills in PowerPoint and data visualization. Skill in utilizing a database to store, sort, and extract user-friendly data to support a grantmaking endeavor. High level of competence with a grant management database such as Blackboard GIFTS Online and IGAM preferred.
