The Linux Systems Group is building the Linux based technologies at Microsoft, and we are looking for a talented Software Engineer to join our Virtualization team in Bangalore IDC. If you are interested in working on Linux or open-source projects at Microsoft, this is the job for you!

Responsibilities

The Linux Virtualization team is responsible for building Linux-based virtualization solutions for Microsoft. In this role, you will work on building the validation platform for our product lines. You will be part of a group of quality champions to make sure our products meet the highest bar possible. You will be closely engaging with internal and external customers, coordinate design and coding across multiple projects, and partner with independent teams in disparate geographic locations. You will develop features that operate at scale, contribute to build, validation, automation, deployment, reliability, and observability, and participate in on-boarding and reviews with engineering teams that develop and manage these products. Further, you will have opportunity to closely work with upstream open-source projects, representing Microsoft as a strong community partner and contributor. You will be working on research and development in the cutting-edge Linux Virtualization space.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:
  • BS/MS in computer science or equivalent experience
  • 5+ years of experience in development of Linux platforms with Python
  • Understanding and hands on experience on Dev-Ops model and Test Automation
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with external teams (open source, standards, and/or partners)
  • Strong aptitude in designing, developing, debugging, and validating excellent products
  • Passionate about partnering with customers
  • Passionate about quality and engineering excellence as one needs to work as an all-rounder engineer focusing on Dev, Test, Support

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, or similar cloud computing platform(s) is a plus
  • Knowledge of Virtualization technologies like KVM, VFIO, QEMU etc
  • Contributing to open-source projects, like libvirt, QEMU or Cloud Hypervisor projects, is a plus
  • Knowledge in Rust, Python or other modern programming languages will be a boost
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
  • A history of contributing to the Linux distributions or other open-source projects
  • Technical passion, terrific problem-solving skills, and self-motivated.
