About Power of Nutrition- Unilever’s Lifebuoy Project

Despite significant progress in the past two decades, India continues to have high rates of child and maternal mortality. Many of these deaths are due to preventable causes such as infections, poor nutrition, lack of access to timely health care or access to basic health information. There is a rural-urban divide in India with respect to health. The healthcare situation in rural India is weak despite 67% of the Indian population living in rural areas. Unilever-Lifebuoy (Unilever’s hygiene soap brand) and The Power of Nutrition have come together in an innovative partnership, launched alongside the United Nations General Assembly, with the aim of improving hygiene and reducing undernutrition. Through the partnership, they aim to disseminate a platform using mobile technology to promote handwashing with soap, as part of a nutrition program among mothers. The partnership supports the Government of India’s recent initiative to address undernutrition in the country.
