Purpose

The Head of HR is accountable for creating and implementing the people strategy for all the business functions in our India organization to enable the execution of financial, operating and strategic business plans and objectives. This role will partner closely with the global Centres of Excellence to ensure the successful implementation and delivery of key people initiatives in India; ensuring a great customer experience. The Head of HR will lead by example demonstrating HR excellence at a strategic level to ensure that we attract, retain, engage and develop our talent and provide coaching and development to the local HR team.

The Head of HR role is even more important at SHL due to our position in the Human Capital Management marketplace. We are market leaders in our field and as such need to drive adoption of our own solutions and best practice both internally and across the wider HR community.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

As a Strategic HR Business Partner:
  • Translate the business strategy into specific functional people plans which align to the global HR strategy and key people initiatives to improve business performance.
  • Build trusted relationships with the local Executive and Senior Leadership teams to drive the delivery of the business and people strategies. Key to success is leveraging strong engagement and facilitation skills to ensure the functional Leaders take ownership and maintain their commitment.
  • Lead strategic organizational design and transformation initiatives that enable and enhance the achievement of business objectives through change management.
  • Lead and influence talent planning and management activities, using our own SHL products and solutions where appropriate, to identify and address local functional and regional talent issues and critical strategic priorities e.g. attraction, retention and development of top talent and succession planning. Challenge the status quo and local variations to understand business issues.
  • Manage and resolve complex employee relations issues that have been escalated to the highest standards of integrity.
  • Participate in global HR projects.

As an Ambassador
  • Embed our core values of strong connections, curiosity, fearless innovation and impact in all of our people practices supporting the cultural transformation of the business.
  • Create and implement a local recognition framework that is innovative, impactful and includes both formal and informal recognition methods to drive improvements in engagement and build stronger connections to the company.
  • Lead the local CSR strategy and plan activities.
  • Be the “voice of our products” in the external marketplace. Advocate the use of our own products and solutions.
  • Represent the “voice of the business” to the HR function including the Centres of Excellence & HR Business Partnering teams and vice versa.
  • Be the “voice of the global HR Business Partner team” locally towards all Leaders.
  • Share best practice, ideas and knowledge with the global HR Business Partner community.
  • Support diversity, equality and inclusion.

As an Enabler
  • Coach and develop agile, self sufficient and resilient Leaders who can lead through continuous change whilst engaging their teams. Support them with putting their learning into action, provide input and challenge on their team’s performance and support with team development. Key to success will be to leverage the L&D Centre of Excellence effectively.
  • Implement and drive engagement of global annual processes e.g. salary review, employee engagement survey, talent reviews, succession planning. All processes should be flawlessly executed.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Leadership team, drive a high performance culture focusing on coaching, continuous improvement and building local capability. Key to success will be to analyze HR metrics e.g. attrition, employee relations case management, sickness to proactively monitor and manage people related key performance indicators and use this insight to define strategies for improvement.

As a Leader
  • Coach, develop and motivate your team to achieve HR excellence. Key to success will be to create a high performance culture where your team are motivated and enabled to perform at their best and develop to their full potential whilst having fun and enjoying their roles.
  • Support, engage and mentor local team members from the broader HR function e.g. in Talent Acquisition, L&D to create a strong, connected “one HR team” brand in India.

Desired Experience and Skills:
The successful candidate will likely have professional experience and personal attributes that include:
  • Extensive experience of creating and executing a HR strategy.
  • Experience of mergers and acquisitions, particularly post integration cultural harmonization.
  • Business acumen to translate strategy into practical HR initiatives.
  • Pragmatic and solutions orientated approach.
  • Strong team player with the ability to work well across reporting lines, with a globally dispersed and matrixed HR team.
  • Superior professionalism, discretion, judgement and diplomacy.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to operate independently in times of ambiguity and change.
  • Effective coaching and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to analyze and diagnose the root cause of talent issues.
  • Proficient in using a HRIS (preferably Sage).
  • Fluency in English (business level).
