Gandhi Institute of Technology and Management, popularly known as GITAM was founded in 1980 by an inspired group of eminent intellectuals and industrialists of Andhra Pradesh led by Dr M.V.V.S. Murthi, former Member of Parliament and popular philanthropist.

The vision of MAHATMA, the Father of the Nation was to see India as a socially and economically resurgent country and he looked upon education as an important means to achieve this goal. Roles and Responsibilities

The Principal is a strategic leader steering the activities towards the goals of the University:

- highest academic standards,

- holistic development of students and

- maintaining harmony and coherence among the Faculty, staff and the students.

The role of the Principal is to provide leadership, direction and co-ordination within the school.

The Principal’s main focus should be to develop and maintain effective educational programs within his/her school and to promote the improvement of teaching and learning with his/her school. The Principal should strive to create an organization and or climate which fosters student and teacher growth.

The Principal shall be responsible for:

(a) detailed organization (workload of staff including teaching assignments) and administration of the school;

(b) development of the instructional programs;

(c) assignment of duties to and the supervision of members of his staff,

(d) performing public relations duties for the School/College,

(e) preparation of budgetary proposals,

(f) good liaising with Industry and any other responsibility assigned and

(g) to teach and conduct research in the home Department

Note: As the University continues to expand and evolve, it is likely that flexibility in regard to the allocation of specific duties will be necessary. Accordingly, the list of duties specified above is not intended to be exclusive or restrictive; duties may be added or withdrawn.

Minimum Requirements:

• A Ph.D. in Science / Engineering or any interdisciplinary subject from a highly reputed university (either within India or abroad) with a strong teaching and research background with sufficient qualifications to be a full professor in one of the departments
• Proven credentials and notable achievements as Leader in reputed academic Institutes.
• A minimum of three years of administrative experience (at the level of a Dean or equivalent position) at the department or college level preferably with large number of students/faculty
• Demonstrated leadership, management, and time-management skills
• Ability to lead a group coherently
• Ability to work independently with professional discretion and judgment
• Strong organizational skills to balance multiple and simultaneous priorities
• Excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
• An out of the box thinker and innovator.
• Should have positive attitude.
• Must follow ethics.
