Job Description

Summary/Objective

This role has the opportunity to establish the robust Governance and controls framework for Capital and Liquidity Management function while liaising with business and corporate management on risk assessment and controls issues, performing continuous risk assessment, developing and executing a risk-based testing plan, communicating results, and reviewing implementation of management actions.

The role is also responsible for building the risk culture of a well-managed organization in line with guidance from ERM, ORM, Compliance and Various line of defense groups.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and deploy a comprehensive, risk-based financial and operational Governance and controls framework plan, with a goal of both maximizing company performance and regulatory adherence, while minimizing risk.
  • Provide expert knowledge and guidance to stakeholders to ensure that risk framework standards are maintained ; identify potential risk and/or control gaps and to treat through design and implementation of appropriate controls.
  • Perform risk assessment followed by assurance activities over Key Controls associated to First Line risks ; Deliver quality, consistent, and timely outcomes.
  • Remain abreast of latest regulatory and legislative developments in order to ensure that management acts within the necessary requirements for managing risks.
  • Support Risk Managers to ensure that any risk events, breaches, or policy non-compliance are identified, recorded, and reported per Operational Risk Framework
  • Support training and competence activities for colleagues within the 1LOD Risk Team.
  • Lead design and timely implementation of Best Practices and Operational Excellence initiatives across the department using innovative and creative solutions.

Recommendations

  • Validate documentation to verify they are in line with standards
  • Develops alternatives and solutions for a board range of problems and exercises judgement based on analysis of multiple inputs.
  • Provide recommended changes to controls if underlying processes have changes or new items/risk added to the business and supervisor
  • Make decisions that influence the testing program that could impact the business
  • Receives general direction and independently coordinates and leads walkthroughs and testing procedures
  • Leads smaller or less complex projects and serves as a resource to another team member

Knowledge

COSO / SoX standards and Risk Frameworks

US Fed specific capital and liquidity regulations and Control environment

Skills

  • Strong working knowledge of financial, operational, compliance, and systems auditing techniques.
  • Strong verbal and written communication, report drafting, and presentation skills, and proficiency with the English language.
  • Ability to think outside the box and challenge the status quo.
  • Must be able to work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with flexibility to adjust to time zones

Required Experience

  • 10+ years of relevant Experience & technical understanding of risks and controls, with a financial services organization.
  • Internal Audit or Risk Management related professional qualification with experience of practical application within financial services.
  • Experience and understanding of policies, including Operational, Regulatory and Credit, and supporting processes and procedures.
  • Understanding of the regulatory, legal and compliance frameworks impacting the financial services industry.
  • Understanding of the control environment and risk appetite of the business.
  • Experience of reviewing processes, procedures and controls including evidence of compliance.
  • Experience of performing assurance activities including controls testing.
  • Embedding first line of defense (1LOD) responsibilities, culture and frameworks, and related risk processes.
  • Experience of working in one of the three lines of defense within a financial services organization.

Certifications

CPA or CA preferred

CISA/CRISC certifications would be an advantage

Travel

Minimal travel for training or off-site meetings

Physical Demands

The employee must have the ability to use a computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, copier/fax machine, scanner, and telephone. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. Employee must have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: reviewing and analyzing information; transcribing; and/or viewing a computer screen. Employee may be required to make quick decisions as to when to escalate or directly address a situation, as well as handle the stress of such situations. The work environment is indoors with a majority of time spent sitting at a desk.
