Role purpose:

• (This role requires a strong communication and leadership skills with good people management.)
• Lead a team of 5 to 6 scientists (post graduate chemists) to develop and deliver suitable advance analytical methodologies for existing and emerging Crop Protection Products (formulations) and their active ingredients, intermediates, Coformulant and raw materials.
• Manage and coordinate for the support of formulations, sourcing/procurement, production, and world-wide registration projects as required.

Accountabilities

• Ensure the Head of function to plan for adequate resources to run the Analytical and Product Chemistry function in Goa by providing timely inputs on team requirements.
• To effectively manage and supervise, empower, and develop the team members to excel in delivery and innovation. Provide direction for development of work plans and assignments.
• Ensure to perform test material characterization and product chemistry studies that fully meet world-wide regulatory requirements to facilitate registration by providing reliable and efficient analytical methods, product chemistry data package and effective problem solving.
• To deliver projects within agreed time, quality, and costs by providing technical expertise and innovative analytical solutions, themselves and through leading a team.
• Application, adaption, development and validation of analytical methods, Identity confirmation by NMR or LC-MS, chemical and physico-chemical characterization of formulations, Coformulant, active ingredients, intermediates, reference standards and metabolites.
• Facilitate training and development opportunities for team members to ensure technical capabilities for successful delivery of work and career development
• Ensure appropriate performance objectives are set; supervise and assess work quality, productivity, and results of team members; coach team members on performance and complete employee performance evaluations
• Establish relationships with key stakeholders and serve as a representative on cross functional regional or global project teams
• Ensure that Laboratories resources and Equipments used for studies are well maintained, protected, and detailed as per the GLP requirements.
• To maintain highest standards of HSE in the group operations thus contributing to the site HSE performance.
• Responsible for maintaining complete confidentiality of all Syngenta intellectual property.
  

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:

Critical Knowledge:

• A PhD or Post Doc with specialization in Analytical Chemistry is preferred OR Organic chemistry or allied sciences qualification with high exposure to analytical and or formulation activity from a reputed institution in India or abroad.
• Strong academic records and good communication skills and sound in analytical techniques. with >10 years of industrial experience preferable worked in R&D/GLP facility (agrochemicals preferable). Or
• Master’s degree in chemistry preferable analytical or allied Science, area from the reputed Universities with strong academic records and good communication skills with >15 years of industrial experience. Analytical Chemist with excellent hand on analytical / formulation and GLP experience is desirable.
• A proven team leadership skill with a track record of leading projects and/or teams of people to achieve goals is required
• Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and to deliver technical leadership in defined areas.
• Knowledge of global processes and regulatory requirements, including experience in the development and production of agrochemical products (is advantageous).
• A min of 10-12 years of practical experience in Formulation/ AI Product Chemistry and analytical work.
• Experienced and has the ability in working to GLP requirements at Study Director Level (is advantageous).
• Should have experience of leading a team of 5 scientists at graduate, masters and/or PhD level.
