At WhatsApp, we are seeking an experienced Policy Communications Manager to be a part of our dynamic communications team in India. The successful candidate would be based in Gurgaon and come with a deep policy and public affairs focus. (An understanding of consumer and financial communications is a bonus). She/ he must be aware and knowledgeable about the evolving tech-policy ecosystem, be an energetic, optimistic self-starter, excellent writer, with experience in developing and executing high-profile national and regional communications programs, managing press relations and handling issues. The role is hands-on, and will manage proactive and reactive communications, from strategy to messaging to execution. This role will report to the Communications Director, WhatsApp India.
  • Develop and execute communications strategies and initiatives to support WhatsApp’s product and policy efforts in India, including our strong defense of privacy and end-to-end encryption.
  • Interface, consult and collaborate regularly with cross-functional teams across the company, both, within India and globally.
  • Educate users, press, bloggers, analysts and influencers about WhatsApp products, developments and initiatives related to private communications.
  • Drive positive stories across a broad range of media, including for policy-makers, consumer, business and industry/ trade outlets.
  • Support and manage the creation of press materials and customer/partner reference programs.
  • Have good understanding and knowledge of India.
  • Respond to media requests from media in India.
  • Manage agency support in India.
  • Organize press briefings, media sessions, and events, as required.
  • Prepare briefing materials and manage executive spokespeople.
  • Minimum Bachelor degree, Post-Graduate or professional degrees preferred.
  • 8+ years professional experience (with a think-tank/consulting firm/ research/public-affairs/PR agency or on the client’s side)
  • Fluent in English with exemplary verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
  • Ability to think, plan, and execute resourcefully.
  • Experience in the consumer and internet technology industry a plus.
  • Passion for WhatsApp and people’s ability to communicate privately is essential.
