Root cause analysis of issues reported in Software for BETA Host using COBOL programming language on an IBM Mainframe Platform (JCL, DB2, and CICS(added advantage). Ability to provide end to end flow of logic in application, ensuring it meets the need of the client and the business. Provide regular status updates. May provide technical support to operations or other development teams Creates and maintains all required technical documentation / manual related to assigned components to ensure supportability. Makes suggestions for problem solutions or software enhancements, which will typically be reviewed by a more senior developer. Implements solutions as directed within standards Participates in project planning sessions with team members to analyze development requirements, provide design options, and provide work breakdown and estimates of work. Provides status updates for own scope of work within projects. Participates in internal team and status meetings. Ability to work on Production and Non production support activities.

Required Skills–COBOL, CICS, JCL, DB2, FILE AID, CHANGEMAN, PLATINUM, DATACOM.

Role Responsibilities

  • Provides technical oversight while analyzing and identifying root cause, suggest modifications to existing software.
  • May act as point of contact or a subject matter expert for technical issues for a specific work stream within a larger project. May lead and manage the technical day-to-day activities of the team
  • Defines and leads overall support and strategies ensuring delivered work meets business, technical and operational requirements.
  • Explores design options and leads the creation of design and accountable to ensure business and technical requirements are met. Accountable for the creation, review, and maintenance of all required technical documentation/ manual related to assigned software to ensure supportability and reuse
  • Provides technical mentorship and coaching to junior members of the technical staff.
  • Assists in identification and implementation of short-term and long-term solution options, including risk assessments.
  • Proactive identification of change or assists with improvements to prevent problems, including problem resolution workflow
  • Leads or participates in remediation of solutions. May drive and implement recommended solutions and follows up with business leaders and/or customers to ensure expectations are met. Accountable for immediate response to problems and sets expectations and timeframe for resolution with customers or groups managing customers
  • Provides technical leadership, and may lead project planning sessions with team members to define and analyze development requirements, provide design option, and provide work breakdown and estimates of work.
  • Develops milestones and dependencies for realistic estimates required for own work, and may validate other team members’ estimates.
  • Coordinates and supports related groups, such as but not limited to documentation teams, quality assurance teams, customer support teams or operations/deployment teams. Provides timely status updates for areas of team responsibilities within projects to management potentially including senior leaders, initiating escalation when necessary.
  • Ensures self and team develop software using disciplined software development processes, adhering to team/company standards and software best practice guidelines, and corporate policies. Researches and identifies standards and best practices as appropriate for discipline
  • Effectively presents information for discussion (technical, project status, and issues) across various diverse audiences, including higher levels within the business.
  • Has knowledge of industry standards and ability to translate/apply research into the business needs.
  • Regularly communicates and shares knowledge, including upward communication of work status e.g. to project managers.
  • Work with Agile development and support teams across multiple locations.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Must have 1-2 yrs Yrs. of strong working experience in Mainframe (COBOL, JCL and DB2).
  • Experience in formal software development lifecycle. Demonstrate ability to learn and apply technical knowledge to business needs.
  • Should be able to collaborate across Boundaries, Drive Results and Focus on Customers
  • IT experience on System Analysis, Application Design, Development, Maintenance and Production Support with COBOL, JCL, CICS, DB2, VSAM and SAS in Financial Services a must.
  • Experience in modernizing a large legacy system added advantage
  • Strong knowledge on DB2 data model with defining Schemas and Tables. Strong experience in Cobol-Db2 Stored Procedure Analysis/Design/Testing in Real time system. Extensive design knowledge in DB2 Load/Unload process with nightly batch process using DB2 Load/Unload utility required.
  • Must have Expertise in industry standard Mainframe tools like TSO, File-Aid, Mainview, SyncSort, Platinum, Abend-Aid etc.
  • Strong knowledge in creating JCL and JCL PROCs using various JCL utilities like FILEAID required
  • Good knowledge on version control tool like Change Man, LIPS, Endevor etc. required
  • Working experience in KANBAN Methodology a plus
  • 4 years Degree in Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical & Electronics, Information Science) or Master’s Degree in Computer Science
  • IBM Professional Certification added advantage
