We’re now a global company operating at the forefront of the information age, employing 90,000 people in 180 countries. And we’re on a mission. Guided by our core values of Personal, Simple and Brilliant our goal is to help customers, communities and businesses overcome barriers and release their potential.
So, if you’re interested in the power of potential, why not join us today and release yours? You can read more here about what it’s like to work at BT.

The purpose of the team and role
We’re spearheading the digital transformation of one of the UK’s most recognisable brands. And we don’t just mean tinkering with a bit of IT.
We’re talking about developing industry leading capabilities in AI, drones, fintech, and healthcare. Introducing agile methodologies to a business that’s over 170 years old. We’re stripping out every last bit of unnecessary complexity for customers and colleagues. For us, digital transformation is a fundamental shift in how we work.
Building belief and advocacy for the journey, as well as the destination, is an essential part of our success. Deep, lasting cultural and technological revolution is the goal. As such, the role of the internal comms manager goes beyond ‘communications’ – we are trying to engage our colleagues in the creation of a new, critical community, driving change within the organisation.
Our colleagues in India are an essential part of this journey. We’ve big ambitions to grow our presence in India, to attract the best and the brightest minds to help us create products and platforms that will change the way millions of people live, learn, work and play. We’re helping hospitals use data to improve patient outcomes. We’re giving small businesses the power of AI-marketing. We’re incubating the brightest, most innovative start-ups, to bring their bleeding-edge products to market. We’re fundamentally changing the way BT works.
You’ll help us do all that by engaging our colleagues in India in our journey, telling their brilliant stories in a compelling way, and acting as the voice of our colleagues to make sure we’re considering their needs when we’re building our communications campaigns.
Here’s a bit more about the kinds of things you can expect to do day to day
  • You’ll be the strategic adviser to the India leadership team – helping to define and deliver a communications strategy that builds advocacy and engagement
  • You’ll work closely with our external communications team to build our brand inside-out. You’ll identify and develop the most compelling and exciting stories, encourage and support colleagues to share their own experiences through social media and align our big external and internal comms activities.
  • Share best practice with the wider internal communications team, proactively providing ideas, protecting and promoting our brand and inspiring others. And you’ll make sure our Digital narrative is coherent and consistent globally – identifying and dialling up the elements that will drive brilliant advocacy from our colleagues in India.
  • You’ll be comfortable working alongside senior leaders to provide advice and constructive challenge on communication matters.
  • You’ll be the point-person for site visits and employee listening activities with senior leaders, making sure that we’re giving them the right opportunities to hear from our colleagues about the great work that’s happening in India and the things they need to be able to do a great job
  • Listen to what our colleagues really need from us and from our leaders. You’ll be ready to take that insight to build and deliver a comms strategy that builds advocacy
  • Embrace and experiment with bringing Agile ways of working to internal communications. Sharing what you learn along the way with the wider IC community
  • Lead and support Digital-wide campaigns
  • Always be mindful of the BT-wide comms agenda, working to make sure that anything happening in Digital ties back to the bigger BT picture
  • In a nutshell, you’ll be a strategist, trusted adviser, planner, BT advocate and an ideas sponge. It’s a big role but if you’re up for the challenge, get in touch.

What we need from you:
  • Be great at stakeholder management and an awesome collaborator
  • Be a creative thinker – able to think outside the box, find creative solutions to challenges and always looking for new and fresh ideas to improve internal comms activities and drive advocacy
  • A passion for storytelling and an ability to weave many individual stories into a compelling narrative
  • Be comfortable with ambiguity and skilled at helping stakeholders to navigate multiple options to arrive at clear and compelling messaging
  • Be comfortable with failure. You’ll experiment regularly, trying things we’ve never done before. Most of the time things will go great, occasionally they won’t – and that’s ok. You’ll share what you learn along the way with the wider team, helping shape the future of IC in Digital and across BT
  • Communications strategy development and delivery
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects at any one time
  • Confidence to work with, challenge and advise senior leaders
  • Demonstrable understanding of Digital transformation and passion for our brand
  • Ability to communicate complicated, multi-faceted plans to wide range of audiences in a simple and engaging way
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – particularly for presentations and creation of plans and strategy
