DEPARTMENT: Antibiotic Stewardship Project

REPORTS TO: Project Leader

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To provide a healthcare program, to strengthen infection prevention control and antibiotic stewardship of hospitals for the benefit of the underprivileged.

DURATION: Minimum Two Years

POSITION SUMMARY


  • The MO shall be responsible for the implementation of the IPC & AS program at the designated hospital. The MO will network with the hospital management, consultants, pharmacist, and other stakeholders to achieve the program deliverables.
  • MO shall be responsible for training, capacity building, establishing policies at the assigned Hospital with help of Project Leads.
  • MO will record, monitor, and supervise the key indicators of the program at the hospital site
  • The MO will supervise and roll out on-site training for nursing staff with the dedicated Infection Control Nurse
  • MO will be responsible for periodic reporting of the project in the specified formats to the Project Leader

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • MO should be aware of Project Design and Responsibilities
  • MO should be aware of all IPC practices, AMS and QI
  • Support Project teams in carrying out hospital-based IPC and AMS baseline assessment
  • Form IC Team in Hospital assigned to him/her.
  • Work with Project teams on developing a facility-specific action plan for implementation of IPC and AMS interventions assists in drafting reports; generate reports and presentations
  • Develop policies, guidelines, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) on IPC in collaboration with other members of the HICC and the IPC team.
  • Assist the project team in the evaluation of baseline assessment and reporting to hospital leadership to identify key priorities for intervention
  • Initiate and maintain activities for HAI surveillance and analyze surveillance data.
  • Provide trends of HAI to different patient care units. Conduct IPC audits and prepares reports.
  • Training of IC team, ICN, Linked nurses, Master training of with hospital team.
  • Help IC team with assessments of Daily activities, IC Rounds of Critical and Noncritical areas.
  • Train IC team for Outbreak management, isolation policies, OT assessment, troubleshooting advisor.
  • Quality indicator analysis and monitoring- CAUTI, CRBSI, VAP, SSI, etc.
  • Role in the monitoring of AMR with help of tools
  • Formulation of Antibiotic policy with help of Clinicians and Antibiogram of the culture reports.
  • Advise staff on all aspects of IPC and maintain a safe environment for patients and staff.
  • Liaise with the microbiology department for analysis of antibiograms (data regarding organisms isolated and their resistance pattern
  • Monitor rational use of antimicrobials, oversee sterilization, and disinfection
  • Investigate an outbreak, and advise on control measures and isolation procedures
  • Coordinate microbiological surveillance as decided by the HICC (testing of drinking water, dialysis water, biological monitoring of sterilization, etc, and investigation of sources and modes of transmission in outbreak situations)
  • Organize and conduct regular IPC educational and training activities for HCWs
  • Organize regular HICC meetings

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:


  • A medical graduate (MBBS), a with qualification & experience in hospital-based infection control, PG will be an added advantage
  • Proven experience as Medical Officer (MO), Infection Control & Control (ICO) with NGOs or other organizations implementing health projects
  • Experience with implementation of tools and protocols of antimicrobial stewardship and infection prevention and control projects
  • Experience in metrics and measurement with respect to project design and project implementation monitoring
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel (with Macro), and PowerPoint
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • A commitment to excellence and demonstrated attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team, with a balanced focus on personal accountability and team goals
  • Demonstrates initiative and follow-through and is self-motivated in the completion of deliverables in a dead-line driven environment
